Today I Learned:

In Italian, affricates are geminated intervocalically.

pizza /ˈpit.t͡sa/
Venezia /veˈnɛt.t͡sja/ ‘Venice’
veneziano /ve.netˈt͡sja.no/ ‘Venetian’

I thought this was only reflected by <zz> but it occurs regardless of orthography. (I am bad at perceiving geminates.)
