Back to Life's Too Short today, mostly messing around with y-sort and z-indexes to polish what's in the game right now. Feels good to stay familiar with it whilst I mostly work on the secret @play.date game...

In Life's Too Short, you can now pick up items, store them in an inventory and use them! This is a huge step this week and represents the main gameplay loop.

Now it's getting all content in from the @play.date version!

Wishlist now: store.steampowered.com/app/4209750/...

Getting the hang of Dialogic for @godotengine.org and managing to start implementing the dialog and interaction systems in Life's Too Short! Lots of polish to go but now I can start adding real content...

Voting for the 2025 #playdate community awards is now open! I'd love Shadowgate PD to be considered for the Pulp awards, genre awards and music.

We officially remade the 1987 classic Shadowgate in Pulp for goodness sake!

Vote here!: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Life's Too Short is now available to wishlist on Steam! store.steampowered.com/app/4209750/...

As you can see below, a lot of the house is now designed, movement, lighting, added characters. Now I start adding dialog and content! Excited to bring this story to more folks!

Happy Friday folks! I’m remaking my first ever game Life’s Too Short for PC using Godot.

I’ve got to sort some tax shenanigans then I’ll be making a Steam page to see if anyone fancies throwing a wishlist!

Side-by-side of the original Life's Too Short front garden and LTSHD. It's coming together!

I think the front is mostly done now. Time for the back garden and all the shenanigans in there!

The new issue of @cranknockout.bsky.social has arrived and I am excited to say that I am currently helping to host the Pulp Lab section with lessons from me and Pixel Ghost games in the next issues and hopefully some other prominent Pulp devs in the future!

[email protected] is doing some incredible work on some custom sprites for Life's Too Short HD. Can't wait to get these into the game! #indiegamedeveloper

Some more progress ongoing to Life's Too Short HD. Still very rough but it's looking super nice!

It's still mega early days but here's a look at how Life's Too Short HD is looking after rebuilding everything with different artwork. Still not totally sold on all the tiles etc but it looks super cute...

I completely rebuilt the world for Life's Too Short HD using a different asset pack as this one has so many great tiles I will use on the sequels.

It was a lot of work and doesn't look quite as good yet but it'll be worth it...

Got this finished! "As Dead as a Doris" will be part of @ldbrart.bsky.social's Halloween project.

More news soon but this one is really exciting for @play.date owners!

Now the game functionally works, has some basic animation (that took so long in Pulp...). Final job is to develop the dialog and actually write the story!

This has been a really fun little project and can't wait to see everyone else's entries!

Now finished with art on this and imported into Pulp. Just the task of programming the systems and figuring out what on earth is going on with the different characters :-D

Mostly this has been just drawing what comes to mind first to hit the deadline..

It's obviously mega rough and that portrait is placeholder but Dialogic is a really nice system to work with in Godot. Once I've got this to a good place, I can start bringing in a bunch of the script from the original game 👌

Spent maaaaany hours getting through a #godot tutorial on dialog and quest systems and then discovered Dialogic.

At least I learned something along the way...right? :-D

It looks suuuuuuper nice and it'd be great if someone could take the assets and make something special!

They've been collecting dust a bit (Zing!) and convincing Elliott to publish them has taken some time so hopefully they're up someone's street!
