Also, the beginning of "Lose Yourself" started playing and all three other people chose a title that, upon googling, seems to belong to a Frank Sinatra song. All three? Too many to be a coincidence. I must figure out why.

The future of Xbox is a means to an end. More Windows devices and more ways for Microsoft to push AI and services onto people. I'm crossing my fingers the Machine takes hold and convinces some devs to adopt new anticheat methods. If that happens, then I think the dominoes start to fall.

The store lock-in, definitely. But Valve is pretty device and platform agnostic. Steam runs on Windows, Linux, Mac, and soon (on the Frame, at least), Android. It's already more Play Anywhere than Xbox is and will only be more so with time.

More Xbox as an ecosystem than anything. So long as kernel anticheat is a thing, Windows is a necessary evil for some games. I hope that changes. But the rest — OS isn’t as much a constraint. The Xbox app on PC is just as much lock-in as a console is. Just not interested in that anymore.

Whether one should get themselves tied into the Xbox ecosystem at this stage, however — whole other thing.

I bailed. Steam games offer more OS and device choice and I’m less worried Valve is going to do something nonsensical to mess up its platform. Heck, they’re even cooking up ARM support.

This is interesting. On my desktop, Edge repeatedly took over as default browser despite me not changing anything. Last night, finally noped out of it. Put Bazzite on it, put it in the living room, done. I'll stick to my MBP and play multiplayer games on console.

Wonder if it's all connected tho

That money certainly isn’t going into making its products any better. They’re all getting worse by the day.
