#Costober2025 day 8: Star Trek (2009)

Because of this movie Jim Kirk leapt from ‘character I like because he’s in Star Trek’ to one of my favourite characters across all fandoms. Kelvin!Kirk, played by the best Chris, will always be my Kirk.
Anika in the style of Star Trek (2009), wearing a gold mini dress with a black cardigan and small Trek delta at the collar, and over the knee black boots.

#Costober2025 day 7: Wimbledon (2004)

I love sports movies and this one is a actually a love story. It’s smart, it’s fun, and it’s winning. Mainly it makes me smile no matter how many times I’ve seen it. The definition of feel good.
Anika in the style of Wimbledon wearing white tennis skirt and black athletic top and holding a pink racket. A shit from further away showing Anika preparing to serve.

As a kid, I was obsessed with Hayley Mills. Summer Magic was a proto Hallmark film: the heroine left the big city for a small town and found love. It’s a silly and sweet romance with a protagonist that lies her way into and out of trouble and I wanted to be her.

New #LetsTalkTelevision! I have a lot to say about the very bad no good portrayal of mental healthcare in this week's #BrilliantMinds and OG #Law&Order. But two of my longstanding OTPs kissed and #SVU remembered that Elliot exists for the second week in a row!
Let's Talk Television: My Ships Are Real
A good week for Hannah/Archer, Bradley/Cory, and EO, but an awful week for mental health.

Once again, if anyone in our deep blue school district had asked my son about his gender, instead of calling everything he went thru anxiety, it would have saved both of us years of misery, heartbreak, and stress. These people are fighting a false reality for clicks and donations.

Burchett: "One thing we found out during covid, we started looking over kids' shoulders at what they were getting from schools & these young children we ought to have more control over are soaking this up & that's why you're seeing the explosion of transgender. To me it's demonic, from pits of hell"

I can’t decide if this is stupid or clever. Both, I suppose. But it got my attention.
Photo of a car in traffic. It’s a HYUNDAI with the bumper sticker “I bought this before Elon went crazy” more typically seen on Tesla, but Hyundai is a competitor.

But here’s Bruno and my new favorite Ken.

I planned for this year’s Costober to be themed around “Movies About Me” and to write up blurbs about the movies. However, all planning and prep were delayed by the cat crisis. I can’t promise to post every day, I can’t promise any blurbs, and I will be recycling looks from previous years/occasions.

#Costober2025 day one: Barbie (2023)
Anika wears a pink fuzzy sweater with Barbie written in black script across the chest and black slacks. Her blonde hair is pulled back in a braid with long bangs framing her face. She poses in front of the Barbie display in a store holding Barbie and Ken dolls from the movie. Anika poses in her Barbie sweater looking to the right with an enigmatic expression Anika poses in a window with her cat, Bruno, a tabby who recently had surgery so his legs are shorn. They both look somewhat serene.

Later and later retirements keep careers stagnant, too. We lose the ability to build institutional knowledge in the new generation and simultaneously keep institutions from evolving when new people bring new ideas. It’s bad for everyone and everything.

I didn’t love Hillary but I will always remember she had a plan to provide money and training to anyone affected by closing coal mines. Because working in a coal mine isn’t just bad for the environment and now the economy, it is bad for PEOPLE. But please, go on about the Chardonnay set.

1. More Americans work at the Cheesecake Factory than in the entire coal industry, and that won't change. It's because of automation, not snooty libs.

2. Coal energy is now more expensive than wind and solar.

3. So this means: higher energy prices, more pollution, no jobs benefit. Genius!
