"Understand the reality of our situation, understand that fascism is already here, that people are already dying who could be saved, that generations more will live poor butchered half-lives if you fail to act." - George Jackson

One of his hobbies? Constantly bragging about making $350k a year.

He insults people gratuitously. But he'd keep doing it for free if it wasn't his job.

Maybe I can move just one hip?

Yeah, I mean there are plenty of contexts where poor code that does what it needs to but is fragile, error-prone, etc. is fine. But production code is different. Just like I can leave some household project undone if it's good enough for my use, but I sure wouldn't try to sell it.

Every step away from crafting your own code increases the risk of errors and poor performance. This can be true when you use someone else's library; it's certainly true when you use code that was copy and pasted from some random source without close scrutiny by someone with the necessary expertise.

In order to produce efficient, reliable code you need to have a solid understanding of how threads are handled by your runtime, how memory is accessed, how expensive your operations are (especially within loops), etc. And obviously you need to ensure that errors are handled properly.

As Marx described 160 years ago, individual capitalists drive the immiseration of workers as they try to maximize their extraction of profits and minimize worker power. Without the ameliorating effects of redistributive policies this heightens class conflict and leads to crises.

Tapping the sign:

"It is the absolute interest of every capitalist to press a given quantity of labor out of a smaller, rather than a greater number of laborers." - Karl Marx

Yeah that long walk isn't really doing the job.

So gross, these people are just shells.

The largest recipient of our military aid executes Palestinians on a daily basis.

We have murdered countless thousands because we didn't like the policies of their governments.

We have supported brutal dictatorships in every corner of the world.

This is all very normal for us.

It's disappointing to see how easily people who should know better settle for childish views of global politics. From the Cold War to the GWOT to whatever we're going through now, it's always a search for simple answers, and a refusal to accept that we may in fact be (one of) the bad guys.
November 28, 2025 at 11:06 PM
And why would any of this surprise people? Intelligence agencies have always worked with anyone they thought could be used to pit groups against each other and destabilize governments they want to weaken or overthrow. It's just what they do, and the CIA is unsurprisingly one of the best at it.

Memories...the first mobile app I released ran on Cupcake and there were exactly two Android phone models in the world (from HTC). Seems like a lifetime ago.
