Ok so this ANSI game engine project is getting out of control but is also kind of awesome? I just added dynamic lighting/shadows. Because of course you need that in an ANSI graphics game?

I spent all day down a crazy rabbit hole with my newsletter stuff all because a provider decided to block a port...and the dominoes fell. Working again now but... wow.

Oh and lest you think all this coding and tech-y website crap is me procrastinating on new book. You would be right, BUT, I am over 40K now so it probably has enough momentum to finish. *Desperately searches for anything made of wood*

So in my continuing quest to escape third party services I made my own universal book linker service (eg. Books2Read) but added a little twist for functionality I've always wanted -- wishlisting! You can check it out (and even use it for your own links: nr.rawktron.com WARNING: Extremely Beta!

Over 30K through my current WIP. However, given it's at least nominally fantasy, I feel like it doesn't have enough impenetrable names for common things in it. Second draft will just be renaming things Dweezilborgs and Frothmeads and Tinspires I guess.

I made a prototype of a dynamic music player for writing and it actually works? It does realtime analysis on the mood of what you're writing and then triggers music (and smoothly transitions) that matches that mood. No more writing love scenes to battle music? Might capture of vid of it in action.

I think if more people understood just how fundamentally limited LLMs are they would be a lot less afraid of them replacing humans in almost any capacity. There's probably a decade of work to create workflows that use these things in a productive way and they'll never be something like "AGI".

Magic is dying. Imagine a world powered by magic...until it begins to fade.

So since "switching" or adopting? audiobooks as my main reading method I've gone through at least 10 books so far this year. That is possibly more of a commentary though on how much driving I do! Blake Crouch's Pines series and since that point JD Kirk's DCI Logan series.

Some days you write lots of words, other days you click Forgot Password on fifty different websites you haven't logged into for months. Because password managers SUCK.

So I always thought those maps in fantasy novels were fascinating, but mostly extras. I'm realizing it's actually a critical tool! Sci-fi series was easy because solar system==mapped. Fantasy is tricky because where's Novaria in comparison to Eldreth? Can you walk there? What's in the way?

I often use placeholders for character names or places I haven't bothered to do research on to generate, but to make it easy to replace I use all caps, so I get tired pretty quickly of typing NAVIGATORGUY, so always end up stopping, and falling down a rabbit hole of name research, meanings, etc.

I usually have music (sans lyrics) playing while I write, and for the Kardashev cycle, it was largely synthwave, predominantly The Midnight. For this current project, which I suppose you'd classify in the fantasy bucket, it's mostly game soundtracks. Any particularly good ones I should add in there?

So annoying that LLMs have tainted the em-dash. Anyone who's read my books knows I enjoy a good em-dash, and as I work on the next thing, I unconsciously find myself hesitating every time. Not stopping me though, this sucker is LITTERED with them!

Just finished viewfinder and such a great game with well balanced puzzles and really creative mechanics. Tiny stumble toward the end with a timed level which felt jarring but huge props for a setting which lets you play it untimed!

Hey writers who use scrivener, do you wish you could just transfer over all your comments/edits from your editor from word/google docs back to your scrivener project and work through them there? After like...an embarrassingly long amount of time tinkering, I FINALLY got this to work. FINALLY!

Whoa! A bunch of new follows here. Howdy folks! I write SFF and have a series about a gazillionaire who tries to take over the sun and a girl who is just trying to live her life but ends up having to take this MF down? First book is free! I also talk about my current WIPs I will someday finish.

So today, on the last day of the holiday. I write 3500+ words on my least-developed, most out-there (for me) WIP. Ok brain, whatever you say.

Feel like I'm making some progress on one of the WIPs for once? Too bad it takes the entire length of the break to clear out my brain enough to be able to think clearly on one of these things and it's back to work tomorrow.
