In a world that has decided that it's going to lose its mind, be more kind, my friends. Try to be more kind.
Happy holidays from me and this old girl, still going strong. 🥰🎄

Anesthesiologist: I'll just insert this weapon of mass destruction right here, your arm might feel tingly and then you'll get tired within 20 seconds or so, nothing to worry about.

This is Pancho. He’s mad because he asked for five more minutes and then you woke him up five minutes later. Unforgivable. 12/10 (IG: panchothediva)

Was looking for a rather specific travel guide book (which may be too specific and not exist, actually) and was confronted for the first time with the absolute flood of random-ass AI books on Amazon these days. Backed away so fucking fast. #Enshittification

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Not to be like that, but god, this Covid thing is boring as hell. I basically feel fine again (some coughing and sniffles, nothing to write home about, no doubt thanks to countless vaccines), but still testing sooo positive. I am going a little stir-crazy over here. 🫠

*throws everything I've got at this bout of The Rona* (also, this is a bit rude five days after getting my booster shot, lol.)

Here's to a life hack that really probably does not apply outside of academia: when the job market is shitty, just go forth and create your own position (along with several others). In related news, I just got the biggest achievement of my professional life to date. Cheers!

I don't want to jinx it, but it's looking like my needing to find a job woes may completely evaporate in the best possible way. Will take any crossed limbs for the next 4-6 weeks to ensure that this option really materializes.

Me: *buys a new bookshelf because the old ones are overflowing and I also need to take home my sciencey books from the office*
Me, immediately after: oh no, I need to buy more books, these shelfs are so empty!!

Lads, my gut instinct was right and my overactive ovaries have produced another large (5ish cm) cyst. 😬 It's a hybrid model (half Endo, half functional cyst), so there is hope that my body may be able to resolve at least part of it without intervention. But JFC, this is getting annoying.

I'm glad Dingo is happy. I, however, feel like my soul levitated out of my body in horror at the sight of this image, lol.
This is Dingo. He gets very anxious if he doesn't have a lap to sit on. In order to meet his lap needs, his family made him an emotional support dummy using pre-worn clothes donated from his grandpa. Dingo couldn't be happier, and we're happy for him. 13/10 #SeniorPupSaturday

Newsflash: being on the job market sucks and I do not like it.

I feel this dog on a spiritual level.
This is Belle. She was adopted as a puppy from the humane society. She was likely stuck in the birth canal and as a result the muscles grew farther back on her head and are underdeveloped. She's perfectly fine, just looks a little different. We love her. 14/10 (IG: bellebows4117)

Backyard fox 🦊 documentation, as seen from the balcony, for @aldiwitch.bsky.social. He has a bum leg, but otherwise is living his best life rooting around the garbage. 😁

My discipline's international academic association just moved its 2027 conference location from Chicago to Glasgow over.... *gestures in the general direction of the US* alla that. Shame it's too late to do the same with this year's conference (Denver).

I am now for the first time experiencing the one symptom you do *not* want with confirmed bowel endometriosis (I'll let you fill in the blanks to limit the public oversharing 😬) and the immediate anxiety is killing me.

So, I guess the new strategy is to just turn the world economy off and on again until it starts working again? Cool.

I am sure feeling liberated off of what little cash is in my portfolio, lol. Btw, great trick, US gov, to tie people's retirement to the stock market, then deliberately tank it. Owning the libs by dying on the Walmart floor.

My gynaecologist described me as "a challenge" today bc neither my uterus nor both my ovaries are remotely where they are supposed to be and v difficult to image on ultrasound as a result, so that's fun. :'D But no new endo cysts, so that's good news!

When you google a weird recurring symptom like "swollen lymph nodes the week before period" and naturally, the answer is endometriosis. Bc ofc. Anyway, happy endometriosis awareness month, lol.
