KOSA dropping duty of care is great but this article buries a very important lede:

A bill package will be introduced once the govt reopens that is a collection of multiple bad "child safety" bills, COPPA 2.0, the Sammy Act, and the App Store Accountability Act [age verification]

I cannot recommend you enough to install the Wikipedia app on your devices and use it like you would any search engine. Nowadays they even have tabs so you can open many articles at once.

And, if you can, please donate to the foundation. It has survived the internet enshittification that way.
wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...

1. This is a very good sign that speaking out against KOSA is working! Dont assume it's dead though, continue calling your reps until further notice.

2. "Sammy's Law" is still in the draft stage but is worth keeping an eye on as imo i think trying to pass ANY kind of surveillance bill is bad
Word on the Hill is that House GOP leaders are moving on from the sweeping and controversial Kids Online Safety Act, or at least no longer prioritizing it.

That has opened the gates for narrower safety bills, such as "Sammy's Law," which I wrote about today: www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
Analysis | ‘Sammy’s Law’ would help parents monitor kids online. It’s gaining steam.
The parents of a teen fentanyl poisoning victim are finding allies in Congress for a bill intended to save others from the same fate.

I hate to be alarmist. But you should be alarmed.
bsky.app Bluesky @bsky.app · Aug 22
Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

It really is now or never. Both paypros and government are making the big push to effectively kill the internet. We might be talking about porn now but porn is step one in a process that moves blindingly fast
*Why is so much censorship bullshit happening all at once?"

Because this is The-Push. They've been tightening the screws for years now to the point the internet is now passively more censored than daytime tv from 30 years ago, and now they're trying to do one last push to snuff out free speech

Keep calling Visa, Mastercard, Paypal and Stripe.

You can't write a story about survival sex work or being trafficked, even if it's by a survivor.

Fuck this so much.
