You're right, group centered around these subjects can condone harmful behavior and can encourage people not to seek treatment. However, that is a problem with the culture and the community, not with the art itself. My stance is that this needs to be addressed on a cultural level...

This is such an important concept that so many people aren't ready for. What happens to children is predicated on so much more than paraphilia. There is a pervasive and systemic attitude towards treating children as less than human, authoritarianism fetishizing control and neglecting responsibility.

Frankly I think that last line is a great example of a worthy statement for art to be making to justify itself!

But instead of talking about the culture that the art is reflecting, we are instead discussing whether the art has a right to exist, a conversation that only benefits the censor.

The level of year one of an art degree? 'Fraid so! Art makes society better and censorship makes society worse. There is no blanket ban that doesn't remove 'worthy' works or keep them from being made altogether, and the meaning comes from the viewer, which no individual can determine for everyone.

You can argue with me if you want, but I am saying that paraphiles need therapy and help, we need to stop child abuse in all its forms, and that we need to also address the authoritarianism that both causes people to abuse children and contributes to the development of paraphilas.

The issue is, MOST PARAPHILES ARE VERY AWARE OF THAT! They would agree with you 100% about it! Many choose to deliberately stay away from the object of their philia altogether.

Words matter. Saying what's meant and not saying what isn't is important. Pedophilia and child sexual assault are different things and if you ignore those differences you cannot understand why children are being harmed and address it, which means things like this will keep happening.

"Because people let them daydream about it" is not how human thought or civilization works, I'm afraid. They did that because they were raised in a culture of violence, repression, and fear and told that being a man means taking what you want and hurting others. Society, not thought, needs policing.

In my opinion the solution needs to come much earlier than that, and be broad enough to curb other forms of abuse as well. I think we need to teach children about consent, responsibility, controlling behaviors and attitudes, and emotional manipulation. This would require treating children as people.
