The man who shot and killed that woman in Minneapolis today had the word "police" on his chest.

But these ICE agents are not police. We don't have a national police force. Policing is state and local in the US. "Police" implies local origins, understandings, connection, and accountability. 1/
This angle shows Trump’s ICE agent standing on the side of the vehicle and firing into the open window at the driver. This was murder.

AOC: What we saw today was a horrific act of violence. What we have seen and are now seeing is that ICE has not just become an anti-immigrant force—it is becoming an anti-civilian, paramilitary organization. People are being taken off the streets for exercising their free speech rights.

The same people who spent yesterday, and the past five years, insisting a Black police officer who shot an insurrectionist breaking into the Capitol should be prosecuted are today bending over backwards to defend an ICE agent who shot a woman in her car in cold blood.

Scum.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said he was told by the feds after the shooting that there no injuries to anyone other than the woman killed.
The claim that the shooter in Minnesota was injured and needed to be treated is undermined by a) he was seen walking away from the shooting, seemingly fine, and b) this is the same line the administration used to justify another DHS killing. Its a playbook. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

From my perspective as a firearms/deadly force instructor, this legality of this shoot is questionable.

Historically, juries have given police broad latitude in their application of deadly force. That though, may be changing.

Related: the tactics here are terrible and led to the use of DF.

Hot take of the night: data shows immigrants commit less crime than citizens.

I think the drop in crime is too large to be explained through traditional factors like socioeconomic, police reform, and community outreach.

We should also consider significant drop in alcohol consumption, increase in THC usage, screen time

Criminal justice experts explain why crime rates fell in 2025
Crime rates in the U.S. fell in 2025. Murders in particular fell dramatically. That is a major takeaway among criminal justice experts as we approach the year's end.

How do long term administrators maintain their relevance and stay connected to their entire organization?

In other words, how do they prevent the inevitable drift as their time at the top marches on?

Some don't. What are their qualities? How do they conduct themselves? What sets them apart?

Performance expectations are a baseline.

Failure to communicate expectations+lack of accountability leads to apathy, complacency, and loss of competence.

Departments lose good people when they are not engaged or challenged.

It's a short ride from zero expectations to a floundering organization.

Train your people to be autonomous and make decisions with confidence. Challenge them to be their best.

Don't be a crutch; support their independence.

Formal leadership must be intentional. It must also be agile, adaptive and responsive.

Out of touch leadership lacks these qualities and instead relies on knowledge derived from decades-old training and experience.
