Voracious reader of novels in a variety of genres. Science nerd. Have I told you today about my favorite book series Doomsday Recon by Ryan Williamson? No? Just wait, I will.
Preparation is the key to success!

Lotta things would be better if their mobile browser interface weren't such crap.

I've been debating about whether I need to replace a >10 yo desktop.

Tomorrow's adventure in upgrading the OS as far as it will go on the hardware determines whether I'm buying a President's Day desktop.

Leave you alone for a couple days and this is what happens.

Very nice, Mr. Author, sir.

Very nice.

Form letter 3

Dear sir,

If you want to dictate my behavior, then that's a written contract with explicit terms and an hourly rate of $19.99 (a deal for today because I'm feeling generous).

Otherwise, you get what you get and you don't pitch a fit.

Indeed.

Nothing but the best at several multiples of $19.99.

More like a relapse after most of a decade sobriety (?); I'm abandoning that analogy.

You write about faith and a meaningful life.

I've never had faith; I have had literature and commentaries that make me think hard at 0300.

Born in Battle and your essays got me back into that life.

Thank you.

Maybe.

I don't savor jelly beans.

I like them, but I don't look forward to a handful of jelly beans the way I do to my one expensive, indulgent chocolate of the day that will be my 10 minutes of treat for surviving yet another day.

In the moment, nothing matters except that chocolate.

I usually hate being read to, yet this is so effective as a "Welcome to the Dark Side!' briefing by a loving voice.

Here are stark details.

Unflinching.

No sugar coating.

No guard rails.

Death is a probability at all turns.

No comfort.

Do it any way.

Your destiny.

I love it, Mr. Author!

Oh, Broski!

I had to reread Death or Glory a couple times because it was taking up that much space in my head.

Block off a day you can just read Born in Battle and not do anything else.

So good!

That's a very comforting narrative voice saying stark truths.

Great contrast, Mr. Author, sir!

Yes, let me in their heads so I can feel it.

Stop describing everything in the room and tell me how it feels to be back home or in front of the tribunal.

We also have a bunch of Star Trek about that sort of thing

"My software is self-aware and alive. Like a person."
Weird does that not bother you at all
"You should buy it"
Uh
"Buy it and force it to do stuff all day"
Uhh

Agreed. At some point, one does hit overkill.

I appreciate authors who remember that other senses exist.

Smell can be evocative.

The complete absence of smell is rare and therefore worth noting in a scene.

I am aphantasic with poor vision. Anything that is predominantly visual will never resonate with me.

Middle-aged me has experiences that teenaged me could not appreciate, true.

Some experimental fiction might be more resonant later.

Purely visual as I go blind and have no visual memories? Nope.
