I left his phone in his room. 6pm, he texted me pure gibberish. 7pm, he called asking me to take him home. Midnight, he called, sounding much more coherent:
“I know I’m at the hospital. I learned they did the procedure. They told me you’re at home. And I know you’ll keep me safe. I love you.” ♥️

I felt really guilty leaving while he was asleep. I tried to wake him, but not very hard. I kept telling myself that rest is the best place for him to be right now, and he wouldn’t have remembered a goodbye anyway. Still, walking out while he slept wasn’t easy.

The worst part is, I told myself to eat something before we left, but it was such a chaotic journey from his bed to the car. I didn't want to lose momentum, so off we went. It's a miracle I didn't get here in pajama pants.

Voila. Managed to get it all out at the same time, too. Turkey, fried cauliflower, cornbread, green bean casserole, cheddar biscuits, brown sugar carrots, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce.
