NGC 7380: The Wizard Nebula

Credit: Nevenka Blagovic Horvat & Miroslav Horvat

www.star.ucl.ac.uk/~apod/apod/a... 🧪🔭
Located only 8,000 light years away, the Wizard nebula, featured here, surrounds developing open star cluster NGC 7380. Visually, the interplay of stars, gas, and dust has created a shape that appears to some like a fictional medieval sorcerer. The active star-forming region spans 100 about light years, making it appear larger than the angular extent of the Moon. The Wizard Nebula can be located with a small telescope toward the constellation of the King of Aethiopia (Cepheus). Although the nebula may last only a few million years, some of the stars being formed may outlive our Sun.

Dust Storms at Nord Rupes [interpolated] - From Simeon Schmauß (stim3on.bsky.social) - https://flic.kr/p/2qyHFM1
Andrea Lucks's original version: flic.kr/p/2qtp1Vt

More information about this scene on the ESA Website: www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/Mars_Expres...

I deflickered Andrea's version by transferring only the small scale details to a common background image using a highpass filter.
Since the original animation only contained 7 images, I also used frame interpolation with RIFE 4.4 to create a smooth animation.

'Satellite Swarm Zoom'

A star trail image made with a time-lapse image sequence photographed by Jonny Kim from ISS. Each image was restored, remastered then retimed using frame interpolation for a short film. These new frames allowed for a simulated long exposure photograph.

A photography of the spiral galaxy NGC 4651. This member of the Virgo Cluster is known as the Umbrella Galaxy due to the umbrella-shaped structure that extends from its disk and that is composed of stellar streams, being the remnants of a much smaller galaxy that has been torn apart by NGC 4651's tidal forces.

One of the amazing things about this mission is that we took a piece of rock lost from Mars millions of years ago, found out of place on our Earth, and we BROUGHT IT HOME 🪨😊

This is an incredibly brilliant idea. We need to set up a UN body in charge of all work and resources for the study of interstellar objects. After all, planetary science is too important to trust to the planetary scientists. But who would direct it?
