Yes there are some Neo-Freudians with some very dangerous ideas, but to throw all psychoanalysts into the same bucket and to claim that they are in a cult is ignorance to the point of being disqualifying. If she ever wants to have a real conversation about this, she can unblock me.

He did think that the id contained aggressive and sexual urges there were socially unacceptable, but he thought the cure for that was to reveal them so that the patient could let go of them, not act on them.

For the record, Freud not think that all women wanted to be raped, and he would have considered a reactionary, poorly thought out pregnancy to have been a disaster of a clinical outcome.

Well, she's blocked me, which is a shame, because we could have had a real discussion about this stuff. It's a shame The Guardian employs someone who thinks in such all or nothing terms to assume that all psychoanalysts are in some sort of cult when few psychoanalysts are even Freudians these days.

He was talking about the id, not the person. Saying that women want to be raped just because Freud is hypothesizing about the id is like saying that all a human being does is make insulin just because that's what the pancreas does.

The medical boards got serious about taking away doctors' licenses after this report came out from the Institute of Medicine. Maybe it's time for a similar push from state bar associations.
