The authoritarian takover of the state bureaucracy might not *sound* like a big deal. But SCOTUS giving Trump the ability to fire the federal government is a God-King power, and represents a failure of the American Revolution.

Ending partisan gerrymandering would go a long way to solving this problem, particularly in states like NC where gerrymandering allows a stacked conservative legislature to take over the university system and impose its will.
I've been thinking a lot about this. If they don't at least threaten to take the same approach as Trump (but in the opposite direction), institutions will keep moving to the right, shaping society.
What's to stop the next Democratic administration from extorting these schools right back? And as much as I hate this shit, they probably should. Otherwise, you're creating an incentive ratchet that only moves to the right.

This is huge news. There's not another Dem in NC with the name recognition and respect that Cooper has. He's the only one who could beat Lara Trump if she decides to run.
