It was a good performance. But ultimately decided by two very good finishes from Arsenal and multiple poor ones by Chelsea.

You keep posting this picture. Trump is not barking mad he is a bully. And appeasing bullies never works. It’s not working for Starmer clearly. If we grew a spine it’s a fair bet trump would respect us more and stop screwing us around.

I’d be in favour of a new pact with Europe only as USA cannot now be trusted. The nuclear deterrent is a difficult one. I think on balance it makes us safer but the current one is no good if it has a US veto. If Russia attacks us Trump would carve up uk with Putin rather than let us defend ourselves

Well this may be the first time admittedly.

If we just ignore what the other side says, saying “you lost me at..” whenever they say something we disagree with, then how can we resolve the deadlock? America can only get through this if we listen to people who admit they were wrong, not ignore them because they were once wrong
January 19, 2026 at 8:25 PM
Maybe read to the end. This mess won’t get fixed unless we start to find common ground with people on the other side.

Seems a fair comment to me. What part of proposing to invade a NATO nation, and imposing tariffs on those not going along with it, and sharing classified info from Ukraine with Russia, is not being a hostile nation? As for “poodle”, poodles everywhere should insulted at the comparison.

Worst striker in division? I thought gyokeres might be better than broja for Burnley and Beto for Everton, maybe. But I think Callum Wilson and stand Larsen just beat him. All the other teams have much better options.

I know Eze is not great defensively but I’d play him central. Perhaps try him with odegaard cos by himself Odegaard is doing nothing right now. We lack central creativity - not enough runners and through balls. Just the dreaded horseshoe and hope the winger does something.

Looks ok to me. They are terrified of Amad and good Mbeumo is back. Sesko is not at the level and Cunha too mercurial.

Yes. His Make America normal again article after Trump got in last year was one of the worst takes I’ve ever seen. He should have been fired on the spot. And of course no mention of a bbc employee being biased, that only happens when you hold views the Mail does not approve of.

Yes the government online services are generally excellent. Credit where it’s due as you say.
January 9, 2026 at 2:42 PM
Interesting observation Peter. I agree in principle but this government has a pattern of announcing a money saving policy then reversing it or hugely watering it down under press or Labour Party pressure. It’s almost as if their initial policy is a discussion draft. Looks weak and ill-considered.

Just don’t buy them. They’ll be forced to reduce prices if no one is mug enough to pay these stupid amounts.

You can if you live in council house with your mother and brother who also get disability benefit plus child benefit for your younger sister. But my points are a) the job centre encourages these claims and b) it’s a trap. She wants to work but is afraid it won’t work out and she loses benefits.
December 5, 2025 at 12:14 AM
It’s very simple. UC basic amount £300 a month. UC if permanently signed off work with mental disability £750 a month. And job centre encourage you to apply. This is my son and girlfriend’s situation. But she’s now trapped. If she tries for work and it doesn’t work out she could lose benefits.

lol the split of comments on here. Men horrified, women totally get it!

Brave call. I used to hate all three but I’ve come to quite like BR and admire it for being so madly different and pulling it off.

One good thing about 50 years ago. You didn’t have miserable old bastards moaning all the time about how much worse everything is. Because most of them had died of cancer and heart attacks already. Happy days.
November 14, 2025 at 11:21 AM
Yes highly unlikely as he himself said. But he is making the point that we should never rule out discussion and negotiation with anyone, no matter how unpalatable.
November 10, 2025 at 5:58 PM
I know you’re a lifelong Labour supporter Peter but Starmer does not belong in the party. He may have good intentions but his instincts are all wrong. Time to support the Green Party!

Sad news though I had assumed he’d died many years ago. Shows looking after yourself pays off, getting safely inside before there is even a hint of rain.
