This makes no sense…

An MP can wake up one morning, ditch the party you elected them for, & sign up to a completely different manifesto…

No thanks

If they defect to a different party, we should get a vote

Sign the petition & help make that law.

Kacsmaryk uses FSC v Paxton to argue that a campus drag ban — in an indoor venue for college students! — is constitutional because a minor *might* be present on campus and the performance *might* involve prosthetic breasts.

This is everything we warned about.

This is why you defend “porn.”
Judge Kacsmaryk rejects challenge by West Texas A&M University's LGBQT club to drag show ban, saying the First Amendment doesn't protect "self-expression in all forms, and certainly not the libertine 'expressive conduct' absolutism envisioned" by the group. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Tomorrow or Tuesday? He's very nice, if a bit disorganised. 😅
Does anyone in London want to show a Brazilian friend of mine a few of the sights early next week? He's all alone in the big city.

(By sights I mean Forbidden Planet and Foyles and Charing Cross Road. 😅)

Turns out Smiley's People is on there, too. Oh boy.
The original Tinker, Tailor (on iPlayer) seems to get even better with age. Some of it is that the characters get younger, and therefore more believable. I was going to rewatch the new one, but...

Makes me feel insane to live in a world that's persecuting trans folk while simultaneously doing big billboards advertising gender affirming care to cis people???

Had an intriguing editorial discussion recently: how did people in the past talk about 'minutes' when they didn't have watches or standardised times? How does that affect your thinking?

Come down an Elizabethan/Jacobean rabbit hole with me.

One of the stories that makes me the saddest out of this ICE invasion is one out of the Minnesota Star Tribune today about ICE agents eating at a little Mexican restaurant in the small town of Willmar, Minn, —and then, when they were done, arresting some of the workers.

One of the things about people showing up to protest for the first time, that many, many armchair theorists don't grasp, is the effect of seeing what happens with your own eyes, then seeing how media covers it, and what is said ABOUT YOU by media and political personalities/office holders.
This dude is intense and correct

It used to be that victims of murders in the U.S. would be smeared by InfoWars and Gateway Pundit as a way to fetishize guns and violence for ad dollars and supplement sales, with the added benefit of cozying up to far-right politicians. Now that work is done by CBS News.

Yep, this.
I have never used AI in my research.

Even before any ethical or ideological concerns, the way the technology works means you cannot be sure what it says is correct, so anything you get from it needs to fact-checked anyway. So what's the fucking point?

The Hmong are here because they fought for the US in a war we lost.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"
A St. Paul resident says federal officers knocked on her door and asked her to identify Hmong and Asian households in her North End neighborhood last week.

Advert buyouts often used to get performers their deposit on their first home. This one covers a fraction of one month’s rent.

It’s called a buyout because it’s supposed to buy you out of being in competitors’ adverts for ~3 years. So this is valuing the performer at just under £7/month.
Just saw a job posting for a TV commercial with a buyout of £250. GOD that is fucked.
