I'm planning to set up a food delivery business, but don't want to pay the people who make the food. If they won't give me free food, they'll kill my business.

this is how I, a resident of LA, found out that the Palisades fire was arson, that they caught the guy, and that he used gen AI to work his way up to doing the crime
nikigrayson.com
the city of los angeles burned in january in part because of a man who couldn’t stop generating images of burning cities on ChatGPT, and then after he lit the fire he asked if the fire he started was his fault

I've heard a lot of praise but was never sure I liked the premise somehow...ah well, the TBR is long enough!

I don't want to get all Chesterton's Fence here, but if you don't understand that a "microscopic snail" is an indicator species that's protected for the health of the entire ecosystem, you probably shouldn't be forming "good relationships" with developers

Rachel Reeves clears planning blockage amid ‘good relationship’ with developer
Exclusive: Chancellor says 20,000 homes were being held up due to ‘some snails that are a protected species or something’

This is Denni. She took an unexpected babysitting shift when she found a baby koala in her yard. She cheerfully delivered the joey to her human, who put them back in the tree to be reunited with their mom. 14/10 (FB: Steve Lamplough)
Denni, a golden retriever with a sweet face, sits and looks up at the camera with a smile. she has a passenger clinging to her back. a baby koala. the joey's eyes peak over the top of Denni's head. Denni is standing and looking off to the left of the frame. the baby koala on her back looks at the camera. a super zoomed photo of the baby koala and their mom high up in a tree. the adult koala holds onto her joey and looks down at the camera with what we would like to think is appreciation for caring for her baby.

Isn't it also/actually plural? So the singular would actually be bucatino...

Sorry not to reply sooner. If you're happy with some TLC it might work for you. Can you collect from Swindon though?

Here's a picture of the vintage machine:
A white 1960s Kenwood Chef stand mixer with powder blue details, also has blender and juicer (maybe?) attachments.

Robin Williams' daughter has some quality thoughts on AI slop

I mean, it's more of a collectors/restorers project right at the moment. It works, but needs a bit of maintenance. Just looking for a good home.

Anyone know anyone who'd like a proper vintage Kenwood Chef stand mixer? Seems a waste to chuck it out...

Cached US Kindle giveaway: 10 copies of Terry Prachett's Lords&Ladies, which is the 2nd DW book I read that I loved (right after Small Gods). This is the book that says you should not listen to demagogues. Also, why pet frogs are good.

Did not know this!

Public Order Act 1936, s.1:

"Subject as hereinafter provided, any person who in any public place or at any public meeting wears uniform signifying his association with any political organisation or with the promotion of any political object shall be guilty of an offence"

They'll probably blame protesting for this - sorry commuters, but those thoughtless anti-genocide campaigners (not the racists) are taking too much of our time. 🙄
jameslatimer.bsky.social
If you don't like the protests - DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE CAUSE. It isn't the responsibility of protesters to stop just because it's inconvenient.

Many pundits today are pushing the line that everyone who protests the genocide in Gaza is basically either antisemitic or tolerant of antisemitism. But isn't that precisely the conflation of the actions of the Israeli gov't with all Jewish people, which is at the heart of this wave of antisemitism?

I just also find it incredible that the police just broadcast to criminals that it's open season on certain crimes. We all *know* the police can't actually do anything about most crimes, but to just put out statements basically saying "here's the laws were no longer enforcing, have at it" is gross.

Good to hear that it's now legal to steal bicycles. I guess I'll just keep driving my car, since I actually own that!

In honor of National Poetry Day, the greatest parody rewrite of all time:
Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?

The thing that gets me about books (and to a greater extent movies and TV) about writers is how inaccurate they are about writing and publishing, despite being written and published!
