UNIXy Guy. He/him. Prone to shouting "PUPPY" in public.

I frequently (almost every day, in fact) give away Kindle genre books using #KindleBookGiveaway hashtag, and wrote a feed named "Kindle Book Giveaway" -- but remember bsky has hashtags now!
Pinned
For the past few years, I have been giving out ebooks for free. These are almost (but not always) US Kindle books; I sometimes to UK/IE Kindle books as well. I get asked about this a lot, so here are some notes:
• I will use the hashtag #KindleBookGiveaway
• These are legally purchased books

"OK, so there's this cabal of scientists keeping their work secret..."
*snickering* "Dude. Have you ever talked to a scientist about their work?"
*takes scriptwriter to three grad student munches*
"OK, new idea. There's this cabal of golden retreivers keeping their desire to chase a ball secret..."
also stop calling us "mainstream scientists" like there's a cooler bunch of hipster scientists out there

We get truck drivers calling the office about job site deliveries all the time. Today's call:
Driver: Delivery for Aldi's in PA?
Me: We probably built the Aldi's, but it's not for us.
D: Oh. I guess you don't want this cheese delivery.
Me: HOLD ON NOW!

A story I mention periodically: about 30 years ago, I was living in Palo Alto, in an apartment building a bunch of my coworkers were at. I went for a walk downtown to get some hot chocolate; along the way, I saw a puppah and went to greet it and then realized that his person was crying.

Today's 2nd $12 thief is @stationcdrkelly.bsky.social, because why not force me to pay for his plea for someone else to have more money -- it's not like he'll ever face any consequences, right?

Go to hell, you thief.

Reached the end of Person of Interest S3, so we're going to watch something more upbeat for a while -- the end of S3 of Fringe.

This person does not deserve free books. @cemurphy.bsky.social already blocked them, but I say that isn't enough. Fucking asshole.

Cached US Kindle giveaway: 10 copies of Hold Me Closer, Necromancer (Necromancer Series Book 1), by @lishmcbride.bsky.social, which is a favorite of mine. I mean, it starts with this poor teenager finding his friend's severed head and then it talks to him!

Landlord: "Sam Wise"? Never struck me as Irish. "Sam Weiss," that fits.

I just realized that's fucking racist and possibly nazi.

I'm not sure I can ask this question well, but it's bugged me ever since I first read THE STAND: when I think, it's in words, that mostly match my pronunciation of them. For people deaf from birth, what is it like for *them*? Is this even a question that has an answer?

Me: So there's only 27 acres left?

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

This is a weird one for me: I have many Macs. Most of them are laptops, without built-in ethernet. I have a couple of hubs with ethernet in them. When I connect them to the laptops, I don't get a DHCP address. When I turn off WiFi, I do. On my Mac Mini, which has built-in ethernet, I can have both.

Resuming Life Unexpected, and in the penultimate episode the teacher confesses, dad gets very very very angry, and mother gets very angry and she and daughter have a fight. Mom is saying all the right things so I am happy with that.

My 2nd attempt at making an omelette was a middlin success. A bit burned on the outsides (but, I liked that, it added some texture), and the folding part took multiple attempts. But it was gooey and cheesey in the inside, so I am pleased with it.

To celebrate this awesome accomplishment, here are 10 uncached US Kindle copies of @emmanewman.bsky.social's Brother's Ruin (Industrial Magic Book 1), free for the taking! I've given this out before, and it was well-received.

Radiotherapy finished yesterday. After the last session I went to the cafe as usual and unexpectedly burst into tears over my drink. The last few months have been so hard and I don't think I have really processed it all. I am feeling immense pressure (all self-inflicted) to be super productive,

I don't make a ton of money off my books, but I make money, and that money helps me pay my various life expenses -- which include the cost of putting out my books since I'm an indie author. I pay my editor and cover artists out of pocket, recoup the cost through sales, eventually. (4/)

It's black friday season so remember: most of the deals are not actual deals, but the result of year-long price manipulations.

Also, you should be thinking about getting computer storage to do backups. I am willing to answer questions about that for free to individuals.

Today's first $12 thief -- at 3am -- is @staceyabrams.com, who despite *multiple STOP requests* continues to force me to pay for her campaign.

I am so tired of all this crap. And in debt, because my phone bill is over $400 this month.
