The right to speak freely is the ultimate personal liberty and the foundation of Karen’s 11-year career at The Post. We’re proud to call Karen a colleague and a longtime union sibling. The Post Guild stands with her and will continue to support her and defend her rights.

The Washington Post wrongly fired Opinions columnist Karen Attiah over her social media posts. The Post not only flagrantly disregarded standard disciplinary processes, it also undermined its own mandate to be a champion of free speech.

We couldn’t be prouder to congratulate our colleagues @wapotechguild.bsky.social on their successful union election.

Weeks of union busting from Post management didn’t stop them from achieving an overwhelming 82% victory. Solidarity forever! ✊

Washington Post management let us know they will NOT voluntarily recognize our union and are refusing to meet with Tech Guild leaders about election details. This is unacceptable.

Today, we held a picket in partnership with our Post Guild colleagues to demand that the company listen to us.

💥 HUGE news: Today, our Washington Post colleagues announced @wapotechguild. With a majority of over 300 tech workers signing cards in support, they’re seeking voluntary recognition.

We’re standing together to support The Post’s tech workers as they form the Washington Post Tech Guild to fix it.

On April 7, a majority of over 300 technology workers at The Washington Post announced the formation of The Washington Post Tech Guild, a step they are taking to build a more equitable, transparent, and sustainable future for all tech workers at The Post.

Around the world, The Washington Post has earned a reputation for being a news organization that holds the powerful to account. Every day, the technologists who power The Post innovate, develop and maintain tools and systems that benefit this world class journalism. Members of the Washington Post Tech Guild should be offered equity and inclusion, a seat at the table, fair compensation and benefits, job security, just cause protections, and flexibility and modern work practices.

I hope you will recognize their union voluntarily and urge you to do so. These workers deserve the same fairness, transparency and respect that readers expect from The Post.

The more Post employees have the protection of a union, the more collective power we all have to fight for the pay, benefits and conditions we deserve. (4)

These testimonials have had a direct impact on our bargaining process: the company agreed to an additional hour of bargaining time, instead of their typical 1 hour time slot they have been allotting to bargain with us. (11)
