I also don’t think hating doctors that get swallowed up in huge medical systems is the best course of action. Private practices and specialists can get the smoke tho. 😭
powdercuff.bsky.social
That’s exactly my point. I don’t think we disagree. I guess I’m confused as to why on this app in particular, the main focus is on doctor pay as it isn’t the biggest contributor. Out of all the evil shit the AMA does, doctor pay wouldn’t make my top 5 list.
powdercuff.bsky.social
If we decide to pay doctors literally nothing from now on, our healthcare costs would still be ridiculously high lol. That’s the math I’m talking about. I’m not disputing the fact that very experienced doctors and specialists are probably overpaid.
powdercuff.bsky.social
Like you guys can be mad about doctors making what they make. The specialists in particular are probably overpaid. But if you’re talking about mitigating the cost of healthcare, doctor pay is not really a factor and the numbers prove it. It’s a red herring.
powdercuff.bsky.social
I hate to break it to you but doctors, on average get paid a little over $200k. And even if we didn’t pay doctors anything, the cost of healthcare in this country would still be ridiculous. Literally do the math.
powdercuff.bsky.social
Woah? I thought this was a classy party. And I never said corporations cause every single problem what? In terms of health care costs they’re the biggest offenders and I’ll stand on that. You’re mad 😭😭😭😭
powdercuff.bsky.social
Like just the concept of a publicly traded hospital should make you sick. Some lady making 200k a year after going through residency is just not going to move me like this.

Y’all are hung up on salaries. Even if the CEO gets 20 million, the rest of the profits from selling insulin at $600 per vial when it costs like $3 to manufacture doesn’t go to just the CEO. It is distributed amongst shareholders. Corporate greed costs us more than the 200k doctors make.
powdercuff.bsky.social
How are they able to make millions of dollars per year? Could it be due to hiking up healthcare costs for the average American? Just a thought

You're right. Total compensation for all doctors in the US is around 0.5 trillion dollars, compared to about 6 trillion for the healthcare system in total. If all doctors were paid half what they are now, insurance premiums shrink less than 4%.

Even if we decided to pay doctors nothing, we would still have a massive healthcare cost problem, yet people on this app seem to think otherwise. What a masterful red herring I can only imagine was manufactured by Big Pharma and other greedy MBA’s.
powdercuff.bsky.social
Yeah cause the 32 jackasses that serve on the RUC represent 1 million practicing doctors. Do y’all actually talk to doctors irl?
powdercuff.bsky.social
The richest people in the country are the ones setting the costs for healthcare services and medication. The hospital presidents and CEOS health insurance companies, etc. So yeah I agree.
powdercuff.bsky.social
Bro. Read your own source. Also, just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean I don’t care lol 😭
powdercuff.bsky.social
Did you even read the source you posted? You’re making my argument for me
powdercuff.bsky.social
Yeah forgive me for not caring about 8-10% lmfaooo. Reduce the cost of medication. Reduce the prices of scans, tests, bloodwork, hospital stays that hospital presidents and CEO’s set the prices for. Hold health insurance companies accountable. If all that fails, I’ll be right there with y’all.

*200k and the math still doesn’t add up to them being the main cost of healthcare when the average cost of healthcare in the U.S. per year is about 4.9 trillion.
powdercuff.bsky.social
My bad billion. Still not as much of a factor as you implied.
powdercuff.bsky.social
Like this is the last I will engage on this topic cause I need to put my phone down and study for the GRE 😭. If the conversation was about the hospital presidents who actually set these ridiculous prices and doctors who own private practices, I would be all for it. Regular doctors are not the reason
powdercuff.bsky.social
Fuck it. Here are the numbers. The cost of healthcare spending in America is about 4.9 trillion a year. There are a little over 1 million doctors in the U.S. Let’s assume none are residents and all are being paid 200,000/yr. That’s around 200 million dollars. It is not a huge factor. At all.

Doctor pay is a huge part of why healthcare in America is so costly. Where exactly do you think the money is going?
powdercuff.bsky.social
Which is wrong. I’m not here to defend the AMA. The entire medical system is trash and needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. The focus on doctor pay is silly and as it is a symptom of a much bigger issue. And it’s not the main reason why healthcare in America is so costly.
powdercuff.bsky.social
Fair. But each hospital in the U.S. has a president or CEO that actually sets the prices of procedures, scans, bloodwork. And pays themselves far more than the doctors that work for them. I think we should start there.
powdercuff.bsky.social
Yes, but also most doctors don’t own private practices and do not set the price for procedures. That again, lies with the MBA degrees, president of the hospital, etc.
powdercuff.bsky.social
Which includes blood work, imaging, other tests not just what they’re paying the doctor. Lmfaooo
