Yes Sunchokes are one of my favorite perennials along with Egyptian walking onions. Sunchokes will cause insane flatulence the first few times you eat them. But otherwise very tasty.

I agree I think a basic kit should look like things you would need to stay in a hotel, hospital or shelter for 3 days. Clothes toiletries, documents, cash and some basic food items. Once you have that you can add things like medical supplies, your survival gear and more food and cooking gear.
