There was a super interesting episode of The Hidden Brain about psychologists who studied why seniors are so depressed and found the opposite — seniors are largely happier than you'd think. It has something in common with what you say. I really recommend this.

Hmm...who is a "senior" here? I'm 70 and all of my peer friends from 60 to 85 very actively use smart phones. I think your "most" is not supported by data. To be sure, in the latest years of life, vision and hearing and cognitive issues become challenging, but it's not just phones then
