The economy is not a force of nature, we can change it to make it work better for everyone. We can’t fix everything but we can make the economy less hostile towards a fulfilling and good life.

You know, for taking all those weird black and white photos. She should definitely be suspended. Or in jail. Those twins were creepy

Q: Have you given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus?

TRUMP: Suspending who?

Q: Habeas corpus

TRUMP: I don't know. I'd rather leave that to Kristi.

Trump is right, there is a war on Christians. He's the one doing it.

i think it is cool that a government run by fanatical bigots is on track to plunge the economy into a mountain and cause a food crisis

So this is funny.
The administration just issued a rule slashing foreign agricultural worker wages. And to justify it, in a public filing, Trump's Labor Department alleges that Trump's immigration enforcement has devastated the Ag workforce and caused a "risk of supply shock-induced food shortages."
Trump Labor Department Says His Immigration Raids Are Causing a Food Crisis
In a filing in the Federal Register, the Labor Department argues there are “immediate dangers to the American food supply” due to a lack of migrant agricultural workers.

Big congratulations to California gig drivers! A decade ago they launched their effort for the right to form a union and faced lots of obstacles but they kept going.

A healthy democracy, where the leader and his followers spent a week threatening the destruction of the UN because the president fucked up an escalator briefly, and we all just moved on largely because the president was busy invading his own people’s territory in part because he got mad at a tv

Actually, the basic economics of it is even more ambiguous than that. First, opening up to trade results in a *rise* in the relative price of exportables. So it was not a good deal, even on prices, for consumers of food, say, or airplanes in the U.S. +

This South Side Weekly report on the Chicago building raid is well worth reading. Most striking to me are the indications of collusion between federal authorities and the building owner and management to effect a mass eviction at the blighted property. southsideweekly.com/federal-agen...

Me reading another article uncritically stating that “90% of US farms are small farms & approximately 99% of them are family farms”.
- Many small farms are residential operations often used to reduce taxes;
- Family farms can be owned by individuals or corporations, the term is meaningless.

I don't know how anyone, unless you're John Fetterman and you live with your head up your own ass, can think the Democrats aren't absolutely winning the messaging war on this shut down. All the messaging from the GOP is about how much Republicans love the shut down!!

Tina Smith says Democrats are digging in: “If anything, we’re feeling more strong.”

“I think we've tapped into something that's really important to Americans.”

Let's note that Christopher Caldwell, who gets to defend Hegseth’s rabidly bigoted, sexist speech in the New York Times, wrote a whole book about how the Civil Rights Act constitutes an illegitimate departure from the Constitution.

So, of course he is on board with imposing white male domination.

Once again, I’m wondering why Democrats aren’t running with a straightforward message of “despotism is un-American and unaffordable” right now and all the way into the midterms.

A kinda related story: My grandfather played the lotto every week and the morning after a draw he and his buds would go to the convenience store where they bought tickets and check their numbers together over coffee. Then word came that someone had bought the winning ticket from that store. 1/

If you have an inkling you might win a Nobel prize, do you feel some urge to ensure you’re in a really noteworthy inaccessible place when it’s announced so you’ve got a good story about getting the news. ‘So, it was as our submersible rose from the Mariana Trench when my phone started pinging…’

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted “no one has died” as a result of U.S. foreign aid cuts. In Myanmar, the grieving father of a 2-year-old boy who died after their food rations were cut calls such claims a lie.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has repeatedly said “no one has died" because of his government’s decision to gut its foreign aid program.

A useful illustration of the limits of liberal identity politics.
It's astounding to see self-described progressives lose their minds over the successes of a Jewish female entrepreneur and intellect in @bariweiss, and a wildly successful Black man in @VanJones68. I guess equity, diversity, and inclusion don't mean as much as they've told us.
