Depends on what system I am running. There is really no point to homebrewing Blades in the Dark, for instance. However, homebrewing in PF2 is pretty typical for creating unique loot and monsters. VtM is a maybe, depending on what kind of game I am running, but Mage 20 feels pointless to homebrew in.

Agree. What a waste of immortality it would be to be straight. 1000 years and a dude doesn't eventually get curious. Come on now.

Never being in that situation is definitely the ideal, but you know how it is. You are 4 hours deep in the session, the stuff you prepared on Monday ran out an hour ago, you are running off your rough notes and realize you just rolled yourself into a narrative corner. DMing is messy. Shit happens.

Yep, but I figured it would be a good contribution to the conversation to describe what I think falls under that often.

Red Markets.

But what if the story choice I want to make is more interesting than what the dice have in mind? Just because the dice are pushing me in a direction that I wouldn't usually go doesn't necessarily mean that that direction is better for the story or the my table.

The vibe I am getting so far from the gameplay is that it looks like it plays like the Deus Ex reboot or Dishonored.

Yeah, but in their game, they got corncobs instead of fangs.

It is Star Trek: Brave New World vs Star Trek: Picard. I can accept that BNW's metaplot might not get resolved because every episode is still a complete story, usually quite good. Picard, on the other hand, has all the hallmarks of being a series that is just stringing me along.

Very NASApunk. I love it.

Another thing is that to make the token for the character you could absolutely make the background transparent on the outside of the water circle and use the water circle itself as most of the token border. Go hips to water to hand and that is most of the circular border.

This is beautiful. I love how you depicted the motion of the water. I've rarely seen a character portrait with so much action to it.

If I am being honest, I am just happy to get to play through a story set in a universe I love. It certainly doesn't have enough customization to be called an RPG, but I suppose I am fine with that. I just want to see a cool story about vampires. My standards are, admittedly, not high.

The game is as much an adventure as it is an exploration of the true history of the land.

These founding fathers were products of a different time and would find much of the progress that has been made since repulsive, regardless of the stability. And that is just what the regressives seeking to awaken them are hoping for. A return to the barbarism and chaos of "simpler times.

The slumbering beast is the adventuring party that founded the city, set to awaken when the city was in its most dire days. The problem is that was hundreds of years ago. Society has progressed, goblins are integrated with society now. There are trade relations with stabilized ogre tribes.

Quench the flames of relational doubt in the oil of the single question that will temper brittleness from friendship and bring it to completion as a true blade of strength and honor! Ask if they would still love you if you were a worm!

Nice! Which one will you run first?
August 21, 2025 at 10:10 PM
Oh and if you want something unlike anything you have probably played before, I recommend the Red Markets 2E playtest. This takes survival, living on the edge of your resources, and the consequences of player decisions about risk-taking to the next level.

At the moment you are really spoiled for choice with lots of new Systems coming out that are well poised to get a dramatic following. Draw Steel, Daggerheart, Cosmere RPG to name some of the more prominent recent ones.

Thankie!

Oh. I can definitely see that as well. That said, loving the design.

I recommend getting the special sketch cover editions of the Pathfinder 2E books. They are gorgeous.
August 21, 2025 at 4:12 AM
My first thought was a Mass Effect Volus.
