Working on my Fiction page this morning on my clunky website. Check it out: anticolonialpedagogy.wixsite.com/jbrooks/proj...
Preview page: Uncanny Magazine cover of 3 witches in purple garb, one of the witches is in a gilded wheelchair and has a fox on her lap.

I love that definition of talent! Talent = party tricks. Skill = training over time.

Migraines are the worst, so sorry. I would send an alien mind healer but they can't travel from the page into the real world just yet.

As someone from the West Coast now living on the East, I apologize for pretending we don't live up to every stereotype imaginable out here.

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

The point about talent vs. skill is so on point. I have no talent as a writer, but it's the one thing I've wanted more than anything. That means refining my skill, studying great writers, and working really hard. My writing is not a product of talent, but obsession. #amwriting #writingcommunity

Currently binging a web comic. It helps but I don't think it's healthy 😂

*sigh* I need healthy ways to deal with getting a story rejected.

author pics are a funny genre. They're all far too serious. Between "I'm gazing into your soul" or "I am too good to gaze into your soul, you are not worth, so I will gaze into the distance." I'm hoping when I get solicited for an author pic I can use this one in my squid-monster mask.

PROOF. #meetfightcute #amwriting #writingcommunity
Picture of a unnumbered chapter of poster's Work In Progress, in which she refers to an earlier post discussing the romance genre meet cute with a new concept, meet fight cute, in which the enemies to lovers trope meets the meet cute trope.

The last one "The Princess can save herself!" goes hard.

This is Guinevere! And this is Guinevere! And yes, this is Guinevere as well. 💙I drew so many different versions of the princess for the opening montage 🌠

I'm coining the term "meet-fight-cute" for the enemies to lovers version of meet cute. They meet, they fight, it's cute. MY TERM, MINE! *hiss* #meetcute #romantasy #amwritingficiton #writerscommunity

A painting of a grandmother growing out of a hedgerow at night. A cloud of golden fireflies floats out of her ribcage.

The only thing you should apologize for is the 20 minute detour I just took instead of writing 😂 (my fault actually for getting on this site). It's not supposed to have that little hole though, right? So it's not currently edible like it usually is?

I was side-eyeing myself (it hurts; don't recommend) for trying to imagine one of my characters with a cape but I realize I'm wrong. Batman had a cape. Storm had a cape. I think my MC gets a cape. #amwriting #writingcommunity #speculativefiction

About a year ago I was approached by Scholastic to pitch sketch ideas for the reprinting of Animorphs. After cryingscreamingbarfing I said YES OF COURSE. I am so grateful to have been chosen and for the enthusiasm everyone has expressed so far. David Mattingly left me some very big shoes to fill!
New cover for Animorphs #1 "THE INVASION." A boy with brown hair in a denim jacket, red shirt and green pants back flips into an anole lizard, completing the transformation in four total steps. New cover for Animorphs #2 "THE VISITOR." A girl with blonde hair wearing a black crop top, high waisted baggy green jeans and pink sneakers jumps across the page, turning into a tuxedo cat. New cover for Animorphs #3 "THE ENCOUNTER." A boy with dirty blonde hair in a baggy purple shirt, blue-grey jeans and yellow All star sneakers leaps from the top of the cover downwards, transforming into a red-tailed hawk.

The pilot was good--complex. First watch felt like one of those things purposely made overcomplicated that ultimately won't make sense, but after two rewatches I think it's solid. The worldbuilding is thicc, excited to see its mysteries unravel (literally lol).
