I think it'd be fine. A lot of soulslikes have a large metroidvania influence already, so I don't think crossing the two genre's completely would be bad at all. Hollow knight is an example of a 2D game that does this really well so I'd say it's definitly possible to do it in 3D too.

I always find it nice when people do that, I don't see a problem with it

It's even more prominent in the older sprites of the game, I have no idea how my brain keeps going "Yeah, they're around the same size." They're really not!
