Furlough Day 4 (we're not counting weekends) soccer snacks
A kitchen counter with a white ghost shaped snackle box filled with fruit, cheese, pirates booty, harvest peas, and chocolate oat bars. The transparent ghost face lid hangs off the side.

I'm seeing a) assertions that no one has been thinking about the issues raised by these NG deployments and b) confident assertions about complicated legal issues. So a friendly reminder that we do have experts on domestic use of the U.S. military, and even they don't have clear answers! ⬇️

Has TLOAS made anyone else want to rewatch Bunheads or just me?
profjessblankshain.bsky.social
After a dozen times through TLOAS, Spotify has finally given up and started looping the album instead of trying to auto play a different Taylor song at the end

My current annoyance is that the tracks can all sound the same or not be coherent but they can't be both!

In my mind "keep it 💯 on the land, the sea, the sky" is an ode to Goldwater-Nichols

I truly was not expecting to like this album this much on first listen. I love Taylor but I also hate change.

Also it's such a relief to only have 12 songs to learn

So nice of Congress to look out for the Swiftie feds with the shutdown timing!
profjessblankshain.bsky.social
I might need a nap first but yes! I probably would have even if I had work in the morning but will have fewer regrets now. You?

By the time shutdown ends I will be 80% pumpkin spice

Now I feel weirdly compelled to go try one from the giant Halloween KitKat variety pack in my pantry

Please applaud my restraint in not setting my voicemail to "I'm sorry, the old Jess can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, 'cause she's furloughed!"

If you're looking for a Halloween book for young toddlers I highly recommend Eek! Halloween! by Sandra Boynton (or as my toddler calls it, "bawk bawk bawk")

Need to keep your kids busy for a few minutes so you can dissociate in peace? I highly recommend a sticker scavenger hunt.

I was thinking "Supreme Allied Commander of Swifties"

Very curious what this will mean in practice re: websites, signage, etc.

Also brainstorming my own "secondary title" ...
danlamothe.bsky.social
President Trump is expected to sign an executive order tomorrow giving the Defense Department a "secondary title" as the Department of War. White House officials now confirming.

Looks like a way to use the title while juggling the law -- the 1947 National Security Act -- that gave DoD its name.

I have long thought it was silly to have both a Department of Defense and a Department of Homeland Security. Monkey's paw strikes again.

Did my first morning bus stop duty of the school year and I was NOT still in pajamas! But I was eating yogurt and granola straight out of the Kirkland yogurt tub. So grateful kid 1 is not yet aware enough to be embarrassed by me.

It does make walking feel like more of a work out, but it also seems to aggravate the same overuse injuries running does, so it's been a mixed bag for me

It's put the LED vest over the weighted vest to get a walk in kind of night
