Yes ... I do look at the China quite extensively in previous blogs ... and I have analysed the new US National Security Strategy. I think that the changing posture of the US makes discussion of sovereign capabilities more important.

I agree, of course, this has to be a collective process, secured through 'leadership' in the true sense. I do think that aligning to the national interest and responding to democratic direction is an important part of all of our jobs.

Many thanks for this thoughtful commentary. I should be clear that I too disagree with some parts of the White Paper ... but this does not obviate the need to respond. I -very- much agree that subject, scholarly & professional societies have a key role to play in subject provision.
