There've been some questions lately regarding what the expected tone of Eat God (www.kickstarter.com/projects/pen...) is, so for the next draft we've put together a discussion of the topic. This will, of course, do nothing to prevent disagreements at the table, but let it not be said I didn't try!

Some previews of the expanded random inventory tables from the forthcoming revision 0.7 of "Eat God" (penguinking.itch.io/eat-god). As these screenshots are a little too text-heavy to fully describe in the ALT tags, their full text is provided at the link below:

If she seems unusually relaxed for ostensibly being terribly wounded, she's also on powerful drugs right now.

A frequent request for the next revision of "Eat God" has been a bit more guidance for dealing with those stat blocks some playsets throw at you which represent large groups of NPCs. Thus:

The Penguin King Winter Sale is on! All games are 50% off, including "Costume Fairy Adventures" (a game of dress-up and shenanigans) and @zachrpg.bsky.social's "Cerebos: The Crystal City" (a surreal travelogue RPG about an allegorical train bound for a mythical destination).

New Steam trading card just popped into my inventory and I'm not gonna lie, "surprised" is not the emotion I'd intuitively read here.

You might think 5 is oddly specific, and you'd be right, but monster writeups where the author has clearly been deep diving about mushrooms are genuinely a recurring pattern in fantasy TTRPGs. To pose a fairly early example, consider this entry from the AD&D2E Monstrous Manual (1993) for "Fungus":

A frequent comment in playtesting "Eat God" (www.kickstarter.com/projects/pen...) is that character creation is a bit wall-of-texty. In draft 0.7, it's been given an editing pass for added breathing room. Also pictured: a preview of the new chapter layout, courtesy of @curatrix-ribston.bsky.social.

Some interesting questions have come in the course of playtesting Eat God lately.

Look, I'm not saying the mechsploitation meme's relationship with its ostensible source media is beyond critique, but when folks go so far as to assert that the "fucked up combat doll with an inappropriate relationship with their handler" bit has NO basis in the genre's canon whatever, I'm just like

"Eat God" has been in playtesting for over a year and this morning is the first time that anyone has ever pointed out that Fluttering Flight doesn't actually define what "short range" means. Let's fix that!

Me, half-joking: If we're REALLY committed to accessibility, the alt text for erotica ought to be just as horny as the visuals.

Art blog I saw just now: *describes its posts in the flustered idiom of DeviantArt softcore circa 2005, complete with referring to penises as "peens"*

1st try: Vastly overestimated interest; only hit first goal of a long ladder at the very end of the campaign.

2nd try: Vastly underestimated interest; blew through entire stretch ladder on day 1, had to scramble to recruit more guest writers while the campaign was still running (fun).

3rd try: ???

This is one of my favourite magic items from the era of D&D before they figured out how to do keywording, partly for the list of modifiers as long as your arm, but mostly because, okay, +2 versus regenerators and +4 versus undead make some thematic sense, but then it's randomly +3 against birds?
