Really, “just dicking around” and rather proud of it. Artist who did graphic design for money, now making art again and bringing in no money. Old. Left-liberal politics, amateur telescope maker, pretty decent cook.
🔭 going through old papers I found this, from 1962. That’s me with my ’scope.

So, impecunious at Christmas, I try making jam for folks. It turned out not bad, but what a messy business, and lifting that canner full of water is about all my old bones could handle. Also, too, $ for fruit, pectin, jars—let alone the canner—not cheaper than store-bought. But definitely better.

re: that first one:

You can’t define a graphic design spec that will hold up in all circumstances

Not quite as bad, but I (BA in Studio Art) once had to explain Bernoulli’s principle to a PhD in environmental science, and I rather think he didn’t think I was right. And it wasn’t a holiday week.

Treat people like shit and they’ll be shitty back at you.

Also, I haven’t flown commercial in a couple decades at least, because I don’t have to. It was crappy back then (remembering a miserable sleepless night stuck at LGA after a cancelled flight) but I gather it’s much worse now.

Snowed in (snow tires not yet on car)—not venturing down my steep driveway with 8-9" of heavy snow on it. Could get annoying if I run out of beer.

Caught a little motion out my office window and it turned out to be a bunch of wild turkeys meandering across the yard.

Reposting this to mention the best thing I’ve started doing regularly: make stock, freeze it, use it all the time to add flavor without fat or salt. Save up scraps, boil ’em for a 2-3 hours. Strain out solids and boil some more to concentrate, freeze in ice cube trays.

I hope no one will be upset that I so belatedly posted a photo of my sister-in-law’s Halloween costume.

This gets a solid “like” for Oldenberg, one of my favorite artists.

Mamdani should dress the NYPD like this.

hanging plant basket, like its owner, is scraggly looking, but firmly in denial about what the season is.

I was just wondering if anyone else would recognize it, and thinking probably not. It’s a “Walsh driver,” the single omnidirectional transducer of an Ohm F loudspeaker, one of the finest ever made notwithstanding they were big, floor-standing speakers that only worked in small rooms.

Before I finally dispose of this thing, is there anyone else here who recognizes it?
