there's a lot of discussion around what it takes to host a full ATProto setup, including relays and appviews on your own, and that's where it can get pretty expensive. but on just the PDS side, I think it's been fairly cheap from the get-go. it's all a little confusing unfortunately

Yeah it's just an OS. The new macOS is a little more buggy in some spots, but it's less of a change over there in general too
