Before European colonialism, only a small percentage of societies upheld monogamy as the social standard, and those that did—such as Japan and China—were imperialist states. This is no coincidence; monogamy, private property, and hierarchical state formation go hand in hand.

Just because someone has been polyamorous for a long time, it doesn’t mean they’re good at it. Similarly, just because someone is new to polyamory, it doesn’t mean they’ll be bad at it.

I just had a revelation: maybe people who insist polyamory is “cheating” aren’t saying you’re cheating in your relationship. They’re saying you’re cheating the system of mononormativity by not subscribing to it like everyone else. They’re mad you don’t want to play the same game.

Is polyamory the issue or is it magnifying the issues your relationship already had?

When you’re secure in your relationship you won’t be comparing and being bitter at the metamour’s relationship with the hinge.

Otherwise resentment just grows.
