A long awaited update but our client is out of jail! We had to wait until today, but finally she is being taken care of. We will be helping her with living expenses while she awaits trial, so we will be keeping her fundraiser open.

Thank you all for the support.

Final update for now:

SC lawmakers did not vote on S.323 — they will reconvene next month and perhaps vote then after debating the bill themselves. We’re taking the weekend, and we’ll be back Monday with next steps.

We were honored that a client turned friend was willing to share her story. A few months ago, Jamee was denied care for her ectopic pregnancy. The hospital denied her the care she needed, but we were able to connect her to an OB that was willing to help.

This is not how healthcare should operate.

On Monday, we delivered over 2,000 postcards to members of the South Carolina Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee w/msgs from people across our state demanding lawmakers vote NO on S.323.

Every card carried a powerful truth: South Carolinians want safe, legal abortion care & will not be silenced.

Board President Carey and Secretary Marcurius speaking at the rally Wednesday morning.
Two people stand at a podium on the front steps of the South Carolina State House, with its tall columns and grand stone architecture in the background. One person, wearing a black T-shirt, jeans, and a blue cap, raises their hand while speaking. The other person, in a dark shirt and tan pants, stands beside them at the podium with an open laptop. A few people sit and walk on the steps behind them, and the sky is partly cloudy.

Something oddly comforting about being among hundreds, if not thousands, of pro-choice protesters gathered at the SC Statehouse, even under the circumstances. Great conversations volunteering at the @psabortionfund.bsky.social table! NO to S.323!

We delivered our petition against S.323 via email and hard copy. If you haven’t signed yet, go to our Linktree and add your name! We will keep this petition open until the bill is declared dead.

Stay tuned for updates on next steps and ways to continue fighting back.
A woman is holding a large stack of printed petition papers wrapped in plastic, with text visible on the top page referencing the South Carolina Statehouse. The scene takes place outside, in front of the Statehouse, where several people are gathered. The woman wears a black top with a multicolored striped detail and a denim jacket, along with a round red sticker that says “Stop the Ban.” The photo was posted on social media with text above stating that Ashlyn Preaux, of the Palmetto State Abortion Fund, has a petition with some 6,000 signatures opposing a bill.

They did it!!!! 🥳
Now onto the next item on the agenda…SC folk, see y’all at the Statehouse on Wednesday? 9:30 AM at Gressett for the hearing on S.323, but WREN has recommended getting there at least an hour early, even if you’re registered to testify at the hearing. Let’s go beat this bill.

South Carolina lawmakers are about to hear a bill that would classify abortion as homicide and would allow people who have abortions to be charged with murder. The proposal would replace the state’s current six week ban

The South Carolina bill is really scary stuff. A Senate committee will consider the bill on Wednesday
www.autonomynews.co/abortion-cli...
Personhood watch
A very scary total abortion ban, which would classify abortion as homicide, will be heard by a South Carolina Senate committee on Wednesday. If the bill is enacted, people who have abortions could be charged with murder. Alarmingly, the bill contains an explicit exception for contraception—but defines contraception as “the prevention of fertilization of an ovum by a sperm.” A “contraceptive” is specifically defined as “a drug, device, or chemical that prevents conception.” Currently, drugs and devices that prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg are also considered contraceptives under state law, but this bill would remove that part of the definition, seemingly elevating the status of fertilized eggs under law. As we recently explained, contraceptives like IUDs and the morning-after pill don’t generally work by preventing implantation—but conservatives often claim they do. This redefinition suggests that South Carolina Republicans may be itching to target these forms of birth control by claiming they cause abortion, echoing recent rhetoric from the Trump administration.

Good news: y’all have already raised $300!

Bad news: she’s measured further along and the cost has gone up. She needs a total of $3,400 now in addition to the $1,000 we already pledged. Our goal is now $2,500 to raise for her and we will cover the rest of the balance.

We have a minor in need of an extra $1950 for their appointment today. We already contributed $1000 — we can cover the balance as long as we can raise $750 today! www.DonorBox.org/support-the-fund

Inching closer!! Thanks to everyone who has already contributed - please spread the word if you can. This is a fantastic way to help an individual who needs it now, and to be a part of the larger movement for reproductive justice.

Updates below in the thread - PSAF needs to raise $2500 total and is $935 of the way there, so $1565 to go! We’ve got this, y’all.
