“Sprawl, in general, is not great for cycling. Let's put it this way, it's not a lost case, but if you want to understand how your city works, then you have to look at density. You have to make sure cities are not built around urban highways.” @thewaroncars.bsky.social

Stoked to see more affordable housing, but need to point out Area Median Income (AMI) is a hard measure bc of wealth inequality across the region

Richmond's median household income is ~70% AMI, so committed "affordable housing" at 80% or 100% AMI in the city supports the top half
“The “average” provision written into the grant agreements is critical, said Ebert, because it lets developers include a mix of units as high as 80% AMI with those that are lower. “

The average. Not the median.

Richmond’s biggest push to create affordable housing. @richmonder.bsky.social
It might be Richmond’s biggest push to create affordable housing. But many residents don’t even know it exists.
Richmond has signed off on 25 agreements that, if all come to fruition, will add 3,213 affordable units to the city’s housing stock.

“Sylvia Davis, a Gilpin Court resident, was among those to accept the offer to attend the June 9 City Council meeting. Now, she said she feels manipulated. ‘Afterward, we met a woman in a Walmart parking lot and she gave my grandson the $20. If you had to pay us to get this done, you used us.’”

Residents were paid $20 by Venable Community Services to attend a June 9 meeting and show public support for the proposed transfer of Gilpin to the Richmond Development Corporation.

ZOMod is far from perfect, but it's a lot better than a code that's spread across over a dozen unlinked Word docs and still has "telegraph office" as a use... Here's what we said at the public hearing on Tuesday

On Tuesday, the Chesterfield Planning Commission unanimously voted in favor of the county-wide re-zoning - ZOMod! If passed by the Board of Supervisors in the fall, ZOMod will replace the county's current circa 1980s zoning code

Chester (yes, of Chesterfield County) outperformed Richmond in "Best Places to Bike" in Virginia. Pausing to think about this... Guess suburbs don't have to be as car reliant as we make them out to be 🤐
