Hi everyone! A brief introduction: I'm a PhD student in history focused on railroad development in Texas and Louisiana following the Civil War. I'm interested in business history, economic history, tourism, labor history, etc. Would love to connect with others in the field! 🗃

Mr. Johnson would be the type of guy to have creative cooking techniques. 😂 #AbbottElementary

This is gonna come back to bite Dexter, I think. Who votes against firefighters?
athenspoliticsnerd.bsky.social
They're voting on the fire station #5 replacement, drumroll please....

It passes 6-3. Commissioners Davenport, Fisher and Johnson voted no. Thornton is absent.

Thank God reason prevails. Interesting vote from one of the mayoral candidates, though. 👀

Supreme Court: of course states can regulate, and restrict access to, medical procedures if there’s a compelling public interest

Colorado: (bans conversion therapy for minors)

Supreme Court: no not like that, we only meant abortion

Final Thoughts: this was my first time seeing Dirty Dancing. Middle class Baby meets working class Johnny at a summer resort. He teaches her dancing against family's wishes. While its plot is cliched with a forced ending, its casting, dance numbers, and music are so appealing it's a winner. #hatm

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to any resort where everyone has to listen to an awkward song by the staff. #HATM

Ooh, that is a gorgeous area! I'll have to make it back up there one day. #HATM

I have to wonder if Johnny has romanced other young guests at other resorts #HATM

That could actually tie in well as my paper also touches on racial violence in Central Texas.

Fellow #skystorians, I am interested in putting together a panel for the 2026 Alliance for Texas History conference. My paper touches on topics including convict labor, Reconstruction, white and Native identities, railroads, and agency. Please reach out if interested!

Today was the final day of the Civil War Public and Applied History Symposium at the @kyhistsoc.bsky.social. I was honored to have been selected to participate and thoroughly enjoyed making connections, learning more about Kentucky, and deepening my understanding of public history. 🗃

I can't join tonight, but I'll say we need a Washington biopic played by Charles Dance. (If you've seen that mockup of "modern George Washington," you'll understand why).

Second choice: Tommy Lee Jones as JQA

That brings us to tonight’s #HATM questions:
1) what president is most deserving of a new biopic and who would you cast?
2) and what’s on the menu at your home tonight?

Coming to the conclusion of a great research trip. Here are just a few snapshots from my exploration of railroad sites in northern Louisiana and eastern Texas. 🗃
