i think this happens when there is an update pending and they decide you can no longer put it off. this is obnoxious in itself, but it used to be youd get an "update and shut down" option at least. maybe its just another casualty of letting LLMs loose on the codebase

one problem with this laptop is the display has such a high pixel density that i can no longer use pixel-perfect ProFontIIx-7 in Emacs 😔 its too tiny

im really enjoying how snappy everything is. part of it is of course that im used to computers from 2012-2013 but also some stuff feels faster than on the M4 macbook pro at work

oh thats where the option is in the GUI. i thought ~/.config/kscreenlockerrc was the only way to disable it 😄

COSMIC is nice but i am experiencing too many bugs*, moved to KDE for now to get stuff done

* some, possibly all, are fixed in newer versions than the one i have, so i will try nightlies or something once i have fewer other things to configure

ok heres what worked: alternate rubbing with a mixture of salt and nail polish remover (acetone + vegetable oil), and washing with soap and warm water. but it might be a really bad idea for thin/sensitive skin. in fact, consider skipping the whole glue-on-skin part to begin with

so far ive been editing configs on the new laptop via emacs on the old laptop because its just easier that way
