With apologies to Greenspun: "Any sufficiently complex distributed system contains an ad hoc, informally-specified, bug-ridden, slow implementation of half of MPI." #distributedcomputing #mpi

If the endless "some people optimized LLMs" news is starting to bore you, check out our preprint on neuromorphic-compatible neural circuits that can solve sparse linear systems.

This opens up some exciting new doors for brain-like algorithms! 🧪🧠🤖

There should be a 2 hour star wars movie that's 100% scrolling text, which is minutes from the Galactic Republic Federal Reserve Bank debating how many basis points to adjust interest rates.
Probably true!

I can't say for sure because I haven't seen Willow for 30+ years. Started with my kid, but the opening with the woman and baby being hunted through the woods was too scary for him, and had to turn it off.

Much better than trade disputes or "somehow Palpatine has returned".
HOT TAKE

Willow is better than most Star Wars movies.

Thanks for sharing this! I need to design experiments for optimizing parameters controlling a physical process. Increasing the "tested in the lab" sample size costs 💰 and time.

This is a great jumping-off point for refreshing my stats knowledge, as well as saving some time and money for my client!
Need to increase statistical power? You don’t (always) have to increase sample size!

🧑🏾‍🔬 Don’t ignore your predicted effect direction

👨🏼‍🔬 Don’t bin continuous variables

👩🏿‍🔬 Use paired or crossed designs

Wow, I would loved to have had some "ride along in the disk's frame of reference" videos of spin coating like this when I was in grad school doing fluid dynamics simulations with multiple liquid layers. #fluiddynamics #simulation #spincoating www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9py...
