According the latest TPOF poll, Taiwan's governing party -the DPP-, President Lai and Premier Cho have all regained in past weeks the support they had lost in late Spring last year (when the U.S. imposed tariffs on Taiwanese goods, and a campaign for recall votes was at its peak in Taiwan).

My face when I read in some news reports that there supposedly had been "a 10-year hiatus" between the KMT and the CCP.

The perfect family name for running in Taiwan local elections this year. Puns included.

Funny thing: a small sample of Taiwan-based accounts I follow shows the "Taiwan community on Bluesky", if it exists, is all over the place on this map (notably, if using different languages from English).

TPP's statement in response to U.S. Senator Wicker.

Similar to the KMT's statement, the TPP wants us to believe that the criticism expressed by U.S. Congress members is based on a big misunderstanding, while these Congress members have perfectly understood what the KMT and the TPP are doing here.

Quite an interesting choice: the Mandarin translation of “Apple in China: The Capture of the World's Greatest Company” by @patrickmcgee.bsky.social is among the many books bought by Taiwan’s President Lai at the opening of the 2025 Taipei Book Fair.

Jennifer Kavanagh conveniently pretending she doesn't know the difference between Taiwan's government and Taiwan's opposition parties (while elsewhere advancing views which are actually quite aligned with those of the very opposition parties that are blocking the defense budget).

Sentimental Value. Beautiful movie.

Two recent Taiwanese movies just landed on Netflix.

One is "96 Minutes", yet another high speed train catastrophe movie, with a plot really running on shaky tracks.

The other is the really, really good "Left Handed Girl", which would have deserved many more Golden Horse awards.

I got two contradictory comments:
- at first sight, the way the question is asked is almost a guarantee to get a biased answer, based on whether or not people like the KMT and its chairwoman.
- but the result closely aligns with other surveys, including long-time running NCCU poll.

Taiwan’s local election campaigning has definitely started, 10 months ahead of the vote. “I am not cosplaying”, says this KMT candidate hopeful.

And overall, we got a defiant Huang who did not apologize for the incident, while usually admonesting anyone else for being corrupt or incompetent (which is a big reason why DPP legislators and part of the media are pushing that hard on this story, I guess).
