I guess maybe he could claim he was so embarrassed by it that he didn't want a tattoo artist or tattoo remover to see it so he didn't fix it. Like keeping it so as not to draw attention to his having gotten it, then having it exposed anyway. Still seems a bit of a stretch.

Yeah, it only makes sense if he was like an avoidant personality type. Get the tattoo, find out it it means something horrid, then spend the rest of the time just ignoring it rather than fix the problem. Just stunned into inaction by the deep embarrassment of it, but that doesn't seem to be him.

A few friends of mine and I would refer to this as the "It's On" moment. Logan got one of the best "It's On" Moments in comics and it has made all the difference. All characters should find their moment.
