Ostrich has been my go-to. Good on basically every layer and Big Eggsplosion plus Egg Groove is a disgusting foraging combination with a nasty endgame with emerald eggs. Brain go brrrr terrain go boom

It is done. I have done every unique thing I can think of doing (other than all V-ranks) in Donkey Kong Bananza.

And here I was worried it'd be a 10 hour game.

I love this title. Now I can be normal again.

Every single Crash comment section I've gotten has been awesome. Either waxing poetic on nostalgia, hopes for the future, compliments, or Crash community members just being cool. I hear that's not a SUPER common experience, but they're like. Suspiciously nice to me.

They are very protective and have given me multiple corrections, but in general I've had some good discussions and dissertations, and whenever they issue a correction and I ask for a source, they've tended to be "oh cool didn't think you'd respond, here's the art book page with the info!"

Been way too long to say. I do plan to do more Castlevania stuff in the future, so we'll see! I think I was too small at that point to have had much meaningful interaction; don't feel like any CV vid I did broke Designing For's general containment!

Every time I interact with the DK fandom it is the most kind and fun celebration of differences. We all know we like different things, but are happy to come together and prop each other up when it counts.

Except for like eight hours before Cranky was shown in Bananza. But otherwise, above & beyond.

For whatever reason it didn't have Punch-Out but that'd be in the "Um, Actually" tier. Will never forget getting a comment from Summoning Salt that was just a timestamp saying "that's not true". I was horrified.

Decided to rank video game franchises not by any qualitative assessment, but by how nice it has been to interact with their fanbases in my 9 years as a content creator. Only counting series I've covered enough to feel like there's a conversation to be had.

It's my birthday! Which means tonight starting at 4:30 PM Pacific we have the Retro Book Club Arena; a donathon where I had 20 people give me a game and who's game gets played is determined by all of you! You'll know the players but the game will be a mystery until it is locked in. Gonna be a blast!

The Donkey Kong series has had one villain who gets celebrated (and also Wizpig sometimes). I love that guy, but I want to give the new villain flowers, too! Have a new video on how Void Kong establishes, differentiates, and forces himself as a great new villain to compliment Bananza's themes!

I absolutely think it's the funniest one, and The Tomb of Sammun-Mak probably one of their best gameplay integration puzzles! I go back and forth on if I prefer Devil's Playhouse or Hit the Road, but Sam & Max absolutely FEEL like video game characters first!

So in Disco Elysium, you are constantly aided/harassed by the inner aspects of your personality. But one is called Shivers. Shivers is “the soul of the city”, the spirit and emotion of the world talking directly to you in cryptic poetry, and your intuition of it. It’s so cool. You solve crimes.

I thought that like, its absolute peak would be “under DKC2”. But this new mode is showing how much it understands what I love about video games. Like it’d be in my Top 10 if it were a new IP, minimum. The fact that it’s DK is so extraordinary and jubilant. The honeymoon is over and I love her more.

Emerald Rush is making me appreciate it a lot more. It’s so incredibly dense, but purposefully so in a way that makes it feel incredible to route and every step off the beaten path rewarding. Stringing that together has really solidified it for me.

Now... I dunno it's a tango between P4, KSS, and Bananza, and the last one there has all the momentum.
