Three questions transformed my spiritual journey on joining the Quakers

Could I be wrong?
Which opened me up to grow.

What would love demand?
Setting a direction of travel.

What is more important?
When unclear about what to prioritise.

What questions helped you on your spiritual journey?
A large red question mark

When the government changes the meaning of a word, for example, labelling a protest group as terrorist, we have a moral duty to stand up for truth and justice. When genocide is being committed, we have to follow our discernment:

"An attack against one faith community is an attack against us all. "

The @churchesengland.bsky.social Presidents have issued a joint statement condemning yesterday's synagogue attack and antisemitism.

cte.org.uk/cte-presiden...

#ChurchesTogether #ChristianUnity
Words of the statement: We are horrified at the terror attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, a Holy Day for the Jewish community. We stand with the Jewish community at this time and categorically reject all forms of antisemitism. Those who hold this ideology must be challenged and must never be allowed to win.

We pray for the Jewish community, who will be deeply traumatised by this event. We pray for comfort for those who have lost loved ones. We thank the emergency services for their swift response, and we recognise with respect how, once again, they have put themselves in harm’s way to protect the community. We pray that all will come together in condemning this senseless attack.

An attack against one faith community is an attack against us all. We commit ourselves to work for positive relationships between faiths and communities in our nation, now and always.

I've just learnt that a kind, good, committed person I got to know through refugee humanitarian work is/was on the Gaza flotilla, and is presumably now detained by Israel.

There are so many reasons to pray right now. I pray for all people suffering and in fear.

I thought and prayed very hard about what to say with opportunity of giving the BBC Daily Service ahead of World Quaker Day. It was broadcast this morning. Here it is: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

As US nuclear weapons return to Britain, we re-affirm the commitment to nuclear disarmament rooted in our faith.

We join hundreds of groups in calling for measures to prevent nuclear war, and redirect military spending to peacekeeping, climate action, and meeting human needs.
Quakers join global call for nuclear disarmament
On International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, Quakers in Britain joined more than 275 organisations in urging governments to take bold action towards disarmament.

Right now, many of us are struggling, yet toxic positivity often tells us we have to “stay positive” no matter what.

This approach doesn’t help. It dismisses REAL emotions like sadness, frustration, or anger. Honoring how you truly feel is not weakness; it’s human.

Quakers do not want to convert people. I am not trying to evangelise you. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention; this helps us learn and grow.

I am sorry if my first message upset you, that was not my intention.

Friends, I have just been shown a disgusting quote from our past. It does not help us if we try to disown our history; we must be honest and make amends where we can.

I want to thank @skuaenjoyer.bsky.social for bringing this to our attention.

Actually, I was interested, and searching for the quote. I am only too aware that Quakers are flawed; just lke we all are. I would not try to defend that quote, I was interested as this is the history that we need to be remined of. We must be honest about our history. Thank you for your help.

Thank you, that is John Archdale, who was a Quaker. I said, we have made mistakes. Quakers even owned slaves; we are now working on reparations.

Quakers have not had a perfect relationship with indigenous peoples. Here is how we are owning our mistakes: www.decolonizingquakers.org/advocacy/fcn...

Edward Hyde was the Governor of North Carolina from 24 January 1712 to 8 September 1712, and he was Church of England. He claimed Quaker support; however, there is no evidence to support this claim. You may be thinking of the Quaker Thomas Cary, whom I will not defend. We've made mistakes.

Three Salem Quakers stepped in when they saw what was happening. Elihu Frazier, Thomas Clarkson Frazier, and William Johnson faced off with the slave catchers. Elihu boldly told them he would "wade in Missouri blood before the negroes should be taken. "

We've got a new sign, and a new candle at #quakers today. Big news. Anyway I was in unusually early so got a nice autumnal low-sun picture of a couple of the less exciting stain glass windows.

How well do we know our history? I am constantly discovering how Quakers influenced so many aspects of our modern life. For example, railways, railway timetables and tickets, even the iron, all have Quaker fingerprints, or were Quaker originated:

When Jesus was asked, ‘Who is my neighbour?’ he replied with the story of the Good Samaritan, in which the neighbour is the man of another religion and another nationality.

Someone needs to tell the all people who cloak their bigotry and racism in Christian symbols.
