Just finishing the book “Forgotten Churches: Exploring England’s Hidden Treasures” by Luke Sherlock. A quite magical book, a mix of architecture, travel and history. Also exploration of place. With evocative illustrations throughout from Ioana Pioaru. Thoroughly recommended. #Booksky
A hardback book standing resting on a red sofa. The book has a dark spine decoration and the cover image is a richly atmospheric black and white drawing on a creamy backdrop looking down towards an old church surrounded by gravestones in long grass and trees. Very idyllic scene.

Andy Warhol: A Graphic Biography by Michele Botton & Marco Maraggi translated by Edward Fortes from Frances Lincoln/ @quartobooksuk.bsky.social
An interesting look at Warhol’s life from his ad man beginnings to the icon he inevitably became. I learned a few things.

I can't quite believe I'm saying this but: I wrote a book! And it's being published this May!

It's about Rome, its enduring appeal, the many different ways it has been interpreted, and how understanding this helps us see both the past and the world today more clearly.

Book cover for All Roads Lead to Rome by Rhiannon Garth Jones, in a mosaic frame like the one used on the book cover, with the text "Out May 2025"

A photo of the book in hardcover against a blue background. The cover is a very light peach colour and has illustrations by Adam Beer of: a café in orange, a seagull and a girl with a kite in blue, a green pigeon, pink cow parsley and plastic bags and a yellow origami boat and leaves. The title is The place I’m in ‘WHAT I SEE WHEN I STOP TO NOTICE’ in black letters. It has this quote at the bottom ‘This Book is lovely’ by Philip Pullman.
Also headshots of me and Felicity Ward in circle shapes and the Book Elephant logo in green which is the title and some books the size of an elephant which is next to them. Also the info about the event in dark blue letters (repeated in the post).

Today my postie delivered the loveliest thing! @mirandakeeling.com has a new book coming called "The Place I'm In", and she was kind enough to send me a copy (Squee!). My goodness, it's beautiful. If you enjoy my spotted posts, Miranda is the OG of people watching and this book is pure joy.
You're looking at a white hardcover book, think the size of a paperback novel, wrapped up in a very pretty pale blue ribbon. There are some postcards and a bookmark sitting under the ribbon, but you can't quite see what they say. The book is sitting on my coffee table which features a woven green, tan and red placemat that looks a bit like a target that dares you to put your coffee cup in the middle. And there's also a small vase that has some dried lambs tails in it... not actual lambs tails but those little grass seed thingies that are all fluffy at the top. I got them from the beach a year ago and every time I look at them they make me happy so they're also in this picture. The whole vibe here is a very nice gift about to be unwrapped. And here you have the book unwrapped! A pale blue ribbon is sitting above the book, a postcard, a small flyer and a bookmark. Now you can see the book is white with a black title that says: "The place I'm in: What I see when I stop to notice" and there's a gorgeous ochre drawing of a building below with little drawings of birds and flowers and things around it. Think whimsy and you've got the right feel. The postcard has the same building on it and the bookmark features the book title. There's also the same placemat and vase of lambs tails in this picture as the last but they're totally being upstaged and seem fine with it.
