Let's think about what games do!

I am writing a fucking novel, I might break 10k words.

Ah, I can see why I am being bottlenecked now.

It's impossible to review this game. Any attempt at being comprehensive just takes you to a million tangents.

Well, time to take a break from Fire Emblem. Let's play something else!

We really do not lose that much in the extended script, when compared to the larger narrative, but so many plot beats seem so much fulfilling with all the additional context.

It's tragic that the Western release doesn't have this reflection paster 4-E-1.

All the armies in the world converge to fight the goddess at the end, and it almost seems anticlimactic that we only have 5 convoy conversations, whereas this would be a relatively common occurrence in PoR.

A lot of things just feel like they weren't smoothed out properly.

This might be my longest review yet.

I'm not even halfway done.

I'm drafting a skeleton for my Path of Radiance review that includes just broad ideas that I want to talk about, and just that took me 1,000 words. I'm not explaining anything yet. It might be a long article.

I've captured, editted and compressed a few clips for my PoR review. Not sure what's going to come of it, it's starting to feel a bit daunting.

Anyway I should probably go to sleep as I need to work in like 3 hours lol, but this game really got me obsessed over it. It is yet another case where it doesn't feel like I have enough of it, but it's because everything that it does, it lands it perfectly.

Here are a few more pics. Good night!

Anyway, here are some absolute bangers and/or moments that I thought were interesting and will probably include in my review. A lot of care is put into the little moments of PoR. It feels very humane, despite it being ultimately a war game.

Not even the Crimean army is safe from bad actors.

It's weird how despite how easily Path of Radiance can be summarized, it has so many layers and textures to peel back.
Despite having played PoR several times by now, I did not remember that Petrine was actually a Branded. This and her death can give us a radically interpretation of her character.

As I play more of FE9, I'm again surprised to see that this is yet another title that treats royalty with more skepticism that I remember, and one that goes to great lengths to show discrimination and racism condemned on every side.

I will probably miss this high-quality writing in RD.

Okay is this supposed to be beatable or not? What the fuck.

bruh what the FUCK

I am so freaking hardstuck at Ch. 16 of FE12 that I'm starting to hate it omg.

Coming into this game I expected it to be a lot more problematic than it ended up being. I don't think games should necessarily be critiques on hierarchical power or whatever, but it was very surprising how much it avoid falling for "royalty = good".
April 30, 2025 at 7:14 AM
Of course, it's not like a systemic critique of power, but I think it delivers on the fantasy of a "just ruler fixes the world" in a very thoughtful manner, especially for a DS game.

Bonus points: Khadein is explicitly shown as a valid way of governance that is NOT based on lineage.
April 30, 2025 at 7:02 AM
Playing through FE12 I'm surprised with the amount of nuance that the games goes to reject the "royalty is what makes this leader valuable" trope, I like how it portrays Marth as a self-doubting ruler who is worth following *because* he is humble and kind, royal lineage being strictly secondary.

I was supposed to publish my Hollow Knight review today, but it is actually pretty hard to write my feelings on this one! It's also getting pretty long.

Slight schedule slip, I guess--no harm no foul?
