All of Lower Decks season one is up for free on the P+ YouTube for a limited time (USA).

A great way to intro a friend to the Cerritos!

:< Damn, that's like the ONE media category I'm actually not into. Clearly this is a self-fulfilling prophecy, and I must go acquire an extensive manga collection, so, as someone who owns zero (0) manga... GO.
What should be my first?

Anyway, I logged on for the purpose of community and positivity, and even if I got derailed, there's still something lovely out there. Rescued this orchid from the HEB clearance rack because most of its leaves were desiccated and/or rotten, but its roots are good, and it'll thrive with me.

I think I've been maliciously placed on some blocklist. I keep replying to posts in support and then very shortly thereafter finding myself blocked by the OP when I'm in agreement with everything they've ever posted and have never interacted with them directly.

I am not remotely pro-Biden. I am 100% pro- "One's ability to articulate their positions verbally in a high-pressure environment is not in any way an indicator of their cognitive capacity, because verbal expression =/= intelligence." Check out "nonverbal" autists who communicate ably when given AAC.

Pro-trans politicians are usually pro-trans because they have trans family. Not to be cynical or anything, but in this social climate, people with no PERSONAL stake tend to vote against the faceless "them". Thus, everyone on my side is leaving, because they must, for the ones they love.

I can't.
This is absolutely the goal & it's "working." We're losing two of our most vocal advocates for trans kids here this summer. They're having to move their families out of state so their kids can get the care they need. We'll keep fighting, but their firsthand testimony & experience is gone.
i wrote about this for my column on tuesday but i think we ought to think of policies restricting gender affirming care as explicitly aimed at expelling a disfavored population from the state in question www.nytimes.com/2024/07/11/b...

I do not have this kind of stutter. I DID once mix up "hit them up" and "shoot them a line" and state "Let's go shoot up the History Department." Was unable to process the horrified reaction in real time, took three days to figure out what went wrong, have been stewing in mortification ever since.

Re: ST:DISCO, I will be forever mad that we didn't get far more of Fred and his uncomfortably intense phonology fetish.
I expect there are already LOADS of excellent Fred fanfics, so please do link me. Bonus points for liberal inclusion of weird phonological observations.

WTF, Prime Video app has apparently implemented a Hulu-style "When you reach the end of this series, we will automatically play something else at random" policy, and I CANNOT PUT INTO WORDS HOW MUCH I HATE leaving the room for a sec and coming back to "Sausage Party."

Anyway, started Earth: Final Conflict next in the queue of Big Scifi of My Lifetime that I missed out on due to parentals.
And... I have issues with this one literally from the get-go. Like, SERIOUSLY, Roddenberry HAD to go with "he" for the explicitly sexless, genderless aliens?
Finished BSG, have... issues... with the finale. Largely satisfactory, but also elements of wtf.

Wow, fell asleep on the couch, apparently had a dream, but all I remember is:
"And who are you?"
"Uh... Gary."
"You don't sound very sure about that."
"Look, you can call me Garoline if you want, but you'll be the only one other than my mom."

Garoline is unquestionably my next D&D character.

But also, the fact that they DID NOT DO ROSLIN'S NAILS.
That one REALLY significant closeup of her hands in S04E21, she has cracked, uneven nails that don't shine like mirrors. Didn't use a hand model or soft focus. Just used the actual hands of a middle-aged woman, and that shouldn't be noteworthy.

Lesson: You do not put people who only marry cousins in charge of large armies.

Other Lesson: Serbia really should have gone in for vampire-based tourism instead of Balkan conquest because now Romania is eating their lunch.

Darkly ironic that it doesn't have a hood.

Also, I simply cannot articulate my actual feelings about Gaius Baltar. The dude has like 3/4 of a whole moral, the self-esteem of an intact tomcat, and literally all of my anxiety disorders. IRL I would avoid him like the plague. Onscreen I want to punch him. But he is SO entertaining.

I also absolutely LOVE the BSG reboot's scifi aesthetic of "What if the distant future(?)/past(?) designed all their tech with the visual sensibilities of Windows '98?"
