But overall, I'm satisfied. Next is to test them dealing with an encounter where they're at a disadvantage (kobolds that surprise attacked them with cover) as well as a boss fight after being bruised up.

"Why not use a normal party then?"
Honestly, 4 characters is a lot to keep invested. Last time I've tried it, there were clearly characters I just didn't care about and were just there to fill in some role in the party. This is different at a normal table when everyone loves their PC at least.

There's also still some solo issues, but I have some solutions. First, I'm going to "cache" PC info, just basic stuff like what a spell does and how abilities work that I can read mid-combat. I'm also going to look into a VTT (like Foundry) and just not record combat beyond a summary of events.

So Magus' Arcane Cascade and Exemplar's Gleaming Blade give +3 to damage, which would be 50% of a Goblin's HP. But this never came up because both classes easily wrecked. I have elected to keep class spell slots separate but focus points combined.

As for the weird:
-It was really powerful to move on one class' turn then enjoy 3 actions with the other. Exemplar and Bard don't need a lot of actions while Magus and Sorcerer enjoys the freedom.
-I don't know how to feel about self abilities stacking across class.

Something else is that my only experience with a group PF2e game was with people who didn't really play optimally whereas I squeezed out what I could while not having smart goblins. (I've even had a side remark from a GM about my PC being a bit OP.) Overall though, I'd say the party is a bit strong.

But the party recovered quickly and took out 3 of the goblins by the end of turn 1. Combat was over by turn 2, partially thanks to a well placed Crit Success on Demoralize.

I don't have a good comparison for a normal game, though I think 3 rounds for a similar encounter is about right.

The test was a single, moderate encounter of 4x Goblin Warriors against lv 1 Magus/Exemplar & Bard/Sorcerer in an open room. The party rolled poorly for initiative and it was iffy as the Magus had about half of their HP knocked out after the goblins attacked them.

"You can cook the marshmallows with the Burn tag."

Ooooo, this is giving me ideas.

Huh. I would say that rules books (not setting) are nonfiction as they are instructions and guides in how to do something (i.e. play the game,) similar to a recipe or owner's manual.

As obnoxious as vague posting can be, this is for a job interview that is asking me to not go into details. I can complain about my frustration, but I shouldn't be discussing the problem. (And just to be safe, I'm not even going to mention the companies involved.)

Happy belated birthday.

Got a better explanation. Anything GM facing is fair game, so long as the quality holds. Anything player facing (beyond minis, dice, and such) involves serious discussion about balance and why nothing first party would work.

(And everything is "GM facing" for solo.)

For group a TTRPG, ideally it should be 1st party for anything mechanical with 3rd party okay for settings, campaigns, and such. 3rd party classes can be hard to justify.

For solo, I'm game for 3rd party. I still want the base system to be good, but 3rd party can just make things better.

Apparently he'll reach out this week if the team wants to talk, to which I hope he actually tries to set a schedule with the job title for me instead of cold calling.

But here's the thing: at no point in this entire ordeal have I had the chance to ask questions. And I have some serious questions.
November 13, 2025 at 12:12 AM
Then this week, I get another random call in the evening from another recruiter in the company. I was able to understand him so we talked about the position. But the conversation was more of me needing to sell myself while the recruiter just collected information.
November 13, 2025 at 12:12 AM
This is actually a concern I have with this company. They've previously reached out and I got as far as an actual interview before I noticed that I was interviewing for a lead position. Thus afterwards, I make a point to make sure I know what position I'm interviewing for.
November 13, 2025 at 12:12 AM
I later get an email from another recruiter of this company about a lead position in PA. Oh boy. I had said that I wasn't okay with PA. Another problem is that there was no discussion about this being for lead. I was asked about a salary, but that was for mid/senior level, not lead. So stopped that.
