The thing about magical ponies is I'm pretty sure they get to say "fuck" exactly as often as they want to and what's anyone going to do about it?

I'd have guessed "magical pony who brings beautiful things into existence" 💖

Anyway, divorce! It may seem absolutely unfathomable when you're stuck in a situation like this but it's a wonderful thing and you deserve the better life on the other side of it.

I once literally had a student whose final project was a weaving visualizing how much time he spent trying to get the loom to do what he wanted.

Isn't that all of DH too? "You may think it's hotshot coding but actually most of the time you spend creating, cleaning, and preparing data." 🤣

Pssst... Has nobody mentioned that overworked staff run on coffee? Maybe they need to order two machines! ☕ ☕ ☕

It was devastating to lose him. He'd worked in undergrad counseling before and people flew in from all over for his memorial. I had fabric squares out for people to write on and turned them into a quilt for his widow.

My department had the idea to get a really nice coffee machine and designate a corner of a very bland kitchen space in honor of a beloved grad program admin who passed away unexpectedly. And it's been wonderful! Other than the red tape around maintaining & fixing it which means it's often down. 😟

I think it may indeed! 💖 🐙 Thank you! I was bummed the one matching the pendant was too big but this is delightful.

Yup!

Um. Um is that an octopus? Kinda like that amber octopus pendant? But in size 6? 👀🐙

Who has two thumbs and is currently printing a (as the kids dubbed it) "butt frog" to use up the gold filament, with the 3D printer they successfully repaired themselves, arguably against all odds?

This person. 🐸 #DHmakes

I was rewatching "Boston Public", a high school favorite, and her character really struck me from the perspective of adulthood. Not an easy role to play, but damn she was good.

Can you say more (if not, I get it) about how AI evaluation factored into the picture?

Not surprised. I pity anyone trying to do NSF funding anywhere near grammatical gender. I wonder what euphemisms and workarounds people are using, if any? (This feels like a @gretchenmcculloch.com question...)

It was a bit of a digression in both the talk and the writeup, but I honestly feel pretty good about the idea that even a well-rounded DH person should be able to pick one technology to zero-guilt just opt out of, and maps are mine.
