TLDR: My extended family were very transphobic so I thought me coming out as my true self was impossible because there was no normalised way of talking about these sorts of things so I thought my only option was... well... d**th.

Then Jodie got cast and suddenly the idea had to be talked about.

Many of you already know this but Jodie Whittaker's casting as The Doctor actually saved my life (context in reply)
