unless if you're doing the rival schools approach. I've been playing rival schools lately and so far that game rules. perfect balance of a coherent narrative that doesn't waste your time. if you INSIST on doing more with your story, then I'll be happy with a rival schools approach too.

DoA2 is so nice bc the story is all over the place and makes no sense if you don't read the manual to get character backstories but it also doesnt waste your time. It's quick, it's snappy, it's so fun to play. You can do a simple arcade run in like. 15 minutes, if that. Peak fighting game.

imo, my personal favorite version of OG DoA2 is the JP DC version, Shokai Genteiban. It was released after the US version so it has English subs, the cutscenes that are also in Hardcore, along with a few extra costumes. iirc hardcore has more but idk the dreamcast doa2 just hits different.

DoA2 Hardcore for the PS2 is considered the definitive OG DoA2 (not a remake, like DoA2U is), but I'm not super crazy abt Hardcore because of how the final boss fight has this stupid blur effect similar to the final boss of DoA3. I hate that fucking blur effect.

While Ninja Gaiden Black is often considered Team Ninja’s magnum opus, a strong case could be made for DOA 2. It’s fast, fluid, still looks fantastic, and the core mechanics are approachable enough that anyone can have a good time.

part of me is like man. maybe they should focus that energy on porting tales games that are genuinely inaccessible. but otoh i never hear anything good about their current ports. hot mess of a company.

also for as much as i absolutely adore berseria, i just dont get why i would preorder for a soundtrack of all things. ain't no way bamco thinks that's a standout worth extra money
