Our two dogs -- Taco and Queso -- came from a shelter in Chicago. They have been in turn open-hearted hosts when we brought CCR dogs home for weekend sleepovers.

Doug Zylstra, my friend and a tireless advocate for Hollanders, received this year's Social Justice Award in honor of his service to marginalized people. He deserved this recognition. I appreciated the timing of his win: exactly ten years after I and our friend Sarah YVO received the same award.

I had a flashback while walking the dogs yesterday afternoon. In a split second, everything about my environment (the light, the sky, the temperature, the relative quiet) reminded me of spring in Albuquerque. I miss that place and encourage folks to visit. Here's a photo from said time and place.
